Dab Sponge Alternatives - Since Dabsponge seems to be out of business

these two sticks have saved hundreds, if not thousands of q-tips
The thin one is flexible for cleaning banger necks. The other is rigid for cleaning slurpers and buckets.

they’re called “Dab Sponges” - but the company went out of business and they’re no longer available.

I’ve got a little stash of these saved up, but people are always asking about them in my videos/streams/sessions and I hate telling people that they can’t get em.

We need to find alternatives and DIY solutions for the Dab Sponges

I think terp wipes has something similar…

Ok yeah just looked at my search history in Amazon and found them

@420vapezone is this what you’re looking for or am I off on what you’re asking?

I like these, even though it may not be as resilient as what you had. Amazon.com : 800 Pieces Cotton Swabs, Double Tipped Precision Tips Cotton Buds Spiral Head Multipurpose Safe Highly Absorbent Hygienic Cleaning Sterile Sticks (4 Packs, 200 Pcs, 1 Pack) : Beauty & Personal Care

Edit: There are dozens of varieties in this area, on Amazon alone.

I have never used dab sponges. I usually use a glob mop.

I found this while searching. Seems close, but i dont know what you’re really looking for. This seems to be a modular design. For the record, i have never ordered from this website.

The tips are some kind of foam? Like a metallic foam?
I’m not sure if I’ve seen these in person or not.

I use tweezers or a jewellers pickup tool and something absorbent like a pinch of cotton wool, paper towel or sponge or …

the thing about the dab sponges are - THEY’RE REUSABLE

i’ve been using those same two sticks for years and they’ve saved thousands of q-tips

i want something that can be used over and over again

Google AI actually had a reasonable explanation, for me and others trying to understand the idea.

Ahh ok so like those terp wipes I linked above but multi-use per wipe and cleanable.

I would imagine that foam is available online somewhere to buy where you could cut your own sponges and use the same sticks still. I’ll see what I can find.

Edit: ok from looking around online theres a lot of iso safe foam sponge options and some iso safe foam like what goes in a harbor freight case. I think any of these would be a satisfactory DIY dab sponge with little effort expended to cut to size.

is that foam high heat resistant too?

i cram these dabsponges into hot bangers without issue

Hmm good point I didn’t check… no, the highest I’ve found that would be usable as a mop is good up to 130° F.

This is the closest I’ve been able to find. It turns out foam is not good in general for high heat applications and most top out under 200F for heat tolerance. The above is open cell silicone so it will absorb, but more in the sense of leeching. (Edited this after doing another search for a sanity check)

I dont know of anything that will actually work like this at the temps required.

The dab sponge was only rated safe to 400F so if your banger ran hotter than that, that would be a concern.

I ai’d “heat resistant and absorbent foam” and was told the two terms don’t play nice together with foam stuff. You can have one, the other but not both. Makes sense, I think. Now being ISO safe is a requirement also.

Do you know if dabsponge had a patent/protection of some sort? It might lead to a source or hint wth the magic foam really is.

Edit: sorry for the double post ;-{>=======

I saw that one but they only had a couple in stock of each color and I think are discontinued since the company is gone apparently.

seems you would just need the bottom sponge part and could then put it on your own wood stick/dowel and use a twisty tie or zip tie of whatever sort.

time to go into business!

I still have the first version of the dab sponge laying around, but unfortunately it is to big to be useful. My guess is that the sponge is made out of viscose. Here is a link to a company that claims that some of there viscose sponges are temp stable up to 250°C (482F).
