DIY - Ballvape station for 4 coils

Wanted to share a ballvape station I made recently. I was annoyed of the vape desk getting more and more messy. Before, I had the concept of of modular coils - that was nice in the beginning, since you could take a station with you in the living room or on the porch. But on the desk it was taking too much space. Since I moved with the vape equipment from the kitchen into a dedicated room, I took the chance to build a station for the most common coils.

Goal was to get space for four coils and a couple of bowls in one station:

  • 22mm Coil for QR Baller and exact preheating of standard 22mm Bowls
  • 25mm spaced axial coil for smaller heads with contact on the bottom
  • 25mm 10 Wrap coil for bigger heads like Olympus or graveda diffuser and deeper bangers or 25mm slurpers
  • 30mm 10 wrap for bigger bangers, pod decarboxylation or UB V2 FMJ

That are the most common used ones in my setup. If needed the other modular stations can be added.

As case I’ve used birch plywood and for front and back perforated sheet metal. Got a couple of benenftifs oft it. First the SSR gets cooled. Maybe don’t needed, but I feel better with it :wink: Second its pretty easy to cut out the openings for the PIDs, switches and ports. And third, it looks pretty cool imho. Front and back are included in the ground circuit, so in case of a defective wire, the circuit breaker will be triggered. Additionally I used a input plug with integrated fuse.

PIDs I’ve used the XMT7100 with integrated SSR. They are widely used, reliable and easy to source. Got mine from Ali. The wire Diagramm is printed on the PIDs, but there are different pinouts out there, so it’s best to always check the diagram on the PID. Because of this I also went without hard wiring, but connected everything with wago snap connectors. In case of changing a PID or using a different pin out on the connectors you can easily rewire it without desoldering. Takes more space inside the case, but that’s ok for me. I’m pretty happy with the outcome, takes less space on the table and have everything needed in one station.

Absolutely killer setup. Respect for the wagos, love those things.

Agreed with how messy and large ball vape setups get, and most commercial solutions only go to dual, and get pricy quickly especially with a nice enclosure. Perfect thing to DIY, and now it’s laid out exactly how you’d want it,

Thanks! Also the dual PIDs I know, have the connectors on the front, which takes space from the desk, too. This station now is on the edge of the table which gives more space with connectors on the back.

Very nice! I feel like we don’t see enough of these, I think there’s some misunderstanding of just what is in that little box and how it works. So much better than the cable hell you would have with 4 separate PID boxes all with coils with XLR connectors. The XLR and the cable input/fuse/switch and enclosure is probably like 25% of the cost of those.

Great set up

Looking for some organization of my own

Currently on my bedroom bureau with soldering mats protecting the wood

Cats make it hard to have a dedicated station

Left my ball vape and accessories out for a couple of weeks to let the curiosity factor run it’s course

Using a Zen Leaf most of the time, micro dosing flower and hash to supplement my edibles for pain management
