This is one of my Cheaponics (long version). Inspired by Terpedo from TRWW. An 8 mm borosilicate cocktail straw and a 12 x 75 mm test tube. Perfect for microdosing and works great with amounts ranging from 0.02 to 0.1 g (the photo shows about 0.03 g)
Nice one! Did you drill the hole, or can you get these predrilled?
I drilled it with a Dremel, using a 2 mm diamond bit.
that looks very clean, i assume it tastes clean too!
I cleaned it before taking the photos. ![]()
It tastes great, it easy to clean, and if you use the proper heating technique, you get a decent amount of vapor considering how little material there is. To be honest, I use it more often than my other devices.
nice! does the shorter one cool the vapor enough without a bubbler?
I usually use it with the carb fully open or fluttering. With the carb fully closed, it can get a little hot, but manageable. It definitely cooler than M7 with airport closed.
Hell yeah, I love cheaponics!
My favorite size is a 12mm straw and a 16mm test tube. Also tried 10mm straws with either 15x12mm short “glass straw cap” test tubes, or 13mm regular test tubes. Never tried as small as an 8mm straw. I went for more of a wide flat “hockey puck” bowl rather than the longer skinny one.
I tried the o-ring and hole build you do at first as well. I like the way it keeps everything centered. But I had issues with the glass cracking.
I also built some using a metal keck clip to hold them together. I ground airflow slots into the ends of some of them like the quartz caps.
You can also make a WPA version with a little tighter airflow with a 13mm tubing OD 14mm ground glass joint blank and the 16mm test tubes. https://ebay.us/m/skCueh
Nice collection! Do they crack around the cutouts over time?
Mine would either crack while drilling the hole or while putting the cap on over the o rings. Never noticed cracking on the slits though it did worry me a bit.
Here’s my effort that I made a couple of years back. It’s an Argo WPA with a 16mm boro test tube and a couple of o-rings. I drilled a 2mm hole in the test tube.
It works pretty well for what it is. Obviously the heat retention isn’t as good as a quartz heater.
Yeah, the heat retention of these thin test tubes sucks.
These things are great I’ve been chipping away on my own versions. The first one was the simplest I just drilled a couple holes in the spare cap that came with my TRWW #11, and put it on a cheap chillum, held on with some Vaphit o-rings.
Next I slapped the heater from the 18mm quartz cap onto a TinyMight 2 stem. Thinking about getting some stainless steel spring wire to make a custom clip with spacers to hold the cap evenly away from the stem, sometimes the cap touches the bowl in one spot and creates a hot spot that combusts.
Last is the new one I’ve been working on. Tried my hand at some flame working. I used “12mm glass blowing tubes”, a 4mm diameter boro glass stirrer as a rod for the the spacers and nub, and a pack glass screens all off amazon. The spiral joint rolling tip was from DHgate. I have a bunch more of these hopefully I’ll get better at it. Don’t have any more quartz caps but if I really want to get more I’ll probably just order them custom from precision glass or similar.
