Do weed grinders get dull?

 Spray bottle with isopropyl keeps the new Odin clean, about once a month. If dirty, harder to turn. Arthritis.

Iirc @420vapezone said he has never cleaned his scs. I’m following that. Had mine for 6 months now and it’s still perfectly clean inside. Any grind that doesn’t fall through the holes eventually does with future grinds and there’s no stickiness on the inside. TBH idk what the point of the ā€œnano coatingā€ on the ripper is, except to be able to say ā€œit’s not just cheaper, it’s betterā€

:grinning_cat_with_smiling_eyes: I tried not cleaning. Kief slowly builds on the turning walls, and with no kief catcher, it builds like ankle-deep snow. Sticky.

the santa cruz needs a little bit of maintenance to keep it moving, but its teeth never got so gummed up that they’d fail. the outer rim of the top piece builds up a layer of hash though

i use the lower half to clean the upper half by holding it at an angle and scraping the bits of grinder hash off the top, they fall into the teeth area and end up in my ground herb

I’ve heard that freezing a grinder makes it easier, but it’s not made a difference to me. :grimacing: still one of the most annoying ā€˜features’ that my grinder has.

For me it actually made a difference, but the results were ambiguous. I experimented with freezing my grinder because I had very sticky flower at the time and the medium BCG plate made that weed quite fine and the plates quite gunky. Freezing the grinder definitely helped with the gunking, since the trichomes freeze and are not sticky anymore during grinding, however freezing the trichomes makes them break apart from the flower, which might make your ground flower ā€œunevenā€. You can alleviate this a bit by moving/shaking the grinder as little as possible during grinding, that way the trichomes dont all settle to the bottom of your grinder-storage. After your weed/trichomes got warm again it shouldnt be an issue anymore.

I have to say though, the more hassle-free method, for me at least, is to just use the coarse plate (normally, no freezing) whenever I have very sticky weed. Comes out medium then and it doesnt gunk up that much.
