when we lost our FC archive, we talked about using AI summaries to rebuild our own version, but I’m not comfortable using AI content
I don’t read it with the same trust or interest, and I know i’m not alone.
That said - it’s probably not going away.
Jerry’s AI fiberglass post is the result of several weeks worth of work. I’m OK with these posts, but would still prefer any “copy paste” type stuff be in a quote box or something.
The lower effort AI copy pastes are the ones I’m more worried about.
They’re often filled with errors and blatant misinformation. Ultimately it is the responsibility of the person sharing the quote to qualify the information, but that’s not happening.
How do we police copy paste qualifications?

I don’t know that we need to. every low effort ai post i saw here got called out by the members. and they really stand out because ai heavily fucks up dry herb info almost every time!
right now, because it’s in its infancy, ai has a stigma around it that only gets cleared with education and familiarity. with no understanding, ai is scary. with just a little play, ai can look stupid enough to make us distrust it completely. but once it’s picked up as real tool and is understood, we can do things with a speed we never thought possible. The jump from google searches to ai is as big as the jump from the dewey decimal system to google, imo.
ai isn’t going anywhere (unless it destroys everything!), and I will not let it run over me. I’ll get ahead of it and make it my bitch!

Agree wholeheartedly @stickstones, AI has become a mainstay in our lives already and in most cases most are not fully aware. It’s all around us already unless you’re off grid. I feel to refrain from using such a truly powerful informational tool while the rest of the world marches forward with it could be a colossal mistake. I try my best to not let it learn from me but in a sense that is almost pointless since you cannot avoid being recorded these days in some shape or form. Those cameras along the highways and cities feed into an ai so much of our travel patterns are already known. For all we know AI may just be the Great Filter they hypothesize about in the Fermi Paradox. Our own knowledge of how to utilize and understand how this creation of our genius operates is essential for future survival. Well assembled information from a google search/ai/library or any other source requires a level of trust in those sources. Unless you can individually verify, which is impossible in most situations (due to time constraints), the tool of ai is not really much different the a simple google search. It is a tool to search information at greater speeds but the responsibility lies on the end user to verify with corresponding citations. Citations of ai use in posts should be all we need to steer each individual to their own conclusions on the validity of what we are reading.
