My Thoughts on the Camouflet Fuji After Two Days of Exclusive Use

After using quite a few vaporizers over the years, I finally decided to treat myself to the Camouflet Fuji. It’s a high-end, handcrafted vaporizer made in the USA that focuses on true on-demand convection.

What’s in the Box

The Fuji comes with a very complete bundle:

  • Five metal dosing capsules
  • A dry glass bubbler
  • A water bubbler
  • A glass and silicone whip
  • A carrying case

Build Quality

The combination of bamboo and glass gives it a very elegant, premium look. It feels solid and inspires confidence as soon as you pick it up.

It’s actually more compact than I expected and, to someone unfamiliar with vaporizers, could easily be mistaken for a home essential oil diffuser.

It’s not something you’d casually slip into your pocket, but it’s still perfectly portable. Personally, I only vape at home, so this form factor suits me perfectly.

Performance

The Fuji is extremely easy to use.

It offers five preset temperature levels, which are very well spaced.

The device uses 100% on-demand convection, so your herb isn’t constantly being cooked between draws.

Heat-up time is very fast, and vapor is produced almost immediately once the target temperature is reached.

The flavor is excellent—very clean, with outstanding terpene and flavor preservation.

Extraction is also very even. My AVB comes out uniformly brown, with no black spots or signs of combustion.

Battery

USB-C charging is quick.

Battery life is excellent and easily lasts through multiple sessions.

Camouflet states that the Fuji uses two user-replaceable 18650 batteries. However, access isn’t instant, as you need to remove four screws to reach them.

I plan to open the device soon to see how everything is designed internally and to confirm that the vapor path is free of plastic, fiberglass, or any other undesirable materials.

Cons

The only real downside for me is importing it.

Once you factor in the price of the vaporizer, shipping costs, VAT, and customs fees for delivery to Europe, the total cost becomes quite significant. That’s definitely something to keep in mind if you’re ordering from Europe.

It also probably won’t suit people looking for an ultra-discreet device they can carry everywhere.

Final Thoughts

I’ve also noticed several similarities with the Vapexhale, although I don’t own one myself. The overall usage, the glass bubblers, the whip, and even the dosing capsules all seem quite similar.

Very cool to see one of these in the wild!
Would be cool if you could count the sessions you get out of a single charge. The biggest hangup i’ve seen about this is the price but i guess we’ll see what reviewers have to say about it.

I’m really glad to hear your initial impressions are good and will be following along to see how it performs longer term and compares to other devices in a similar price tier ballpark and below.

Does the bamboo feel solid or thin? Any fitment issues noticed?

I’m also curious about ambient smell but it looked almost like you could just use a silicone plug on the top to help with that?

Hey @woody! Cool write-up. This is also the first real review I’ve read in the wild about the Fuji. I don’t feel it was that well received when Camouflet launched it because of sticker shock.

Your initial review seems positive so at least there may be some price justification. Do you feel you can overpower the heater? Does it have pass-through charging and does heater performance fade with battery strength at all?

Yeah you’re not wrong. I feel the price is a tough sell and would still be a no for me barring a big sale. I’m really happy with my Couchlogs.

It does behave like a log besides the instant-on nature of the heater. One would hope it would be more powerful than most logs.

FYI: Camouflet has officially dropped the Fuji price from $699 to $379 USD. That’s a massive $320 price cut. Great news for anyone who was waiting to buy one, but I have to admit I feel for the early supporters who pre-ordered at full price. A discount that big, this soon after launch, is a tough pill to swallow. What do you guys think?

Shitty to make the early adopters swallow the cost for the tooling essentially.

I feel bad for anyone who already purchased.

I called this on FC 7 months ago and camouflet replied and assured me that no sale would happen on the Fuji, which sure, I guess a 45% permanent price decrease isn’t technically a sale.

This was their reply to me:

Holy shit, I feel betrayed.
Such a huge price drop less than 10 days after receiving the vaporizer—which I paid the launch price for (was $599 no 699$)—is a hell of a way to thank early adopters and a strange way to build customer loyalty.
They did mention in the email that they’ll be getting back in touch with the Phase 1 buyers, so for now, I’m waiting.

You’re exactly who I feel the most sorry for :frowning: I hope they can make it better for you.

The vagueness of that email statement worries me (to paraphrase “bringing them along on a journey” lol), hopefully it’s not just a little accessory pack or a camouflet gift certificate or something.

I know you’ll share when they reach out, I’m curious to see what they end up offering.

They replied, but what a joke!

I don’t know if we’re allowed to share a private email, but basically, they’re offering me a credit code for $220 + $45 “as a courtesy to assist with the difference in 20% VAT import tax on the retail price.”

I know it’s better than nothing, but considering I already own all their other vaporizers, which I bought from EU shops, and I specifically bought the Fuji because it was a US premiere, and I incurred €145 in import and customs fees ($165), this code doesn’t interest me.

I don’t know why but I have a feeling they will take care of you. I just hope what is offered is something you don’t already have. Would be cool to get the next new product free or at a massive discount. :crossed_fingers:

Oh dang that’s bull

I’m sensitive to this stuff from other post history so oof is about all I can say.

I remember them telling you it would not be part of the name your own price deals or subject to sales. They straight up were dishonest but to be fair it is in a direction that benefits most.

I had a bare minimum response from them in mind but they didn’t get close.

Early adopters basically gave interest free loans.
