Hi Jerry, how does this compare to the Tempest 2 and the Dynavap hyperDyn THC??

Not Jerry but I’ll add my 2 cents.
It has a bit brighter flavor that the Tempest 2 natively with the all glass cooling path.
It does take more thermal energy to heat up than the tempest. The Tempest will ride the line on the YLL at 75 watts for 47 seconds.
the JoyStik at 100 watts at 60seconds still feels like it needs a bit more (for me anyway) that I use the Flare on it to go a bit higher in Wattage.
The HyperDyn with the THC cap isn’t as…nimble? Of a solution as the Tempest/JoyStik, and while it does work, I find it takes even more thermal energy than the JoyStick.
Still has that DynaVap vapor signature, and if you have a HyperDyn already it can be worth looking into.
For a new device? I’d put it below the JoyStick and Tempest for micro ball vape style convection hits.

Like a really good budget version. Beede said he made it for the torch, so I’m not surprised if it doesn’t work as well with an induction heater. The temp discs chick just right. I know the tempest now clicks better, but my older version doesn’t.

What style of jet lighter is everyone using on this?
I have tried a single flame cigar torch lighter, takes a long time to heat up, and a triple flame cigar torch lighter. Been finding the triple flame seems to be working good.
Seems to be a single heat cycle, then done. Anyone getting more than one heat cycle?
You can go as large as an Ignyt mini I’d say. I get good results with an honest single flame at a 45 degree angle right around the stop signs.
I also go typically for dense one hit extraction on glass or a one heat extraction with a few rips native. So this lets me go either way with the same heat method.
but it’s one and done either way for me.

I use a blazer big buddy. I know it’s overkill but I have my technique down with it.

I got to try one the other day! I combusted my first go, lol, but I was heating the hexagons directly. The taste was surprisingly not too bad when I accidentally combusted.
I found aiming the torch at an angle so it hits the hexagons and tip, and heating past the click for 4 seconds will get me the nice thick milky hits I chase with my DynaVap.

Hi, new to the forum and my first post here. I picked this vape up in their recent sale as an upgrade to my Dynavap B. I think it might be a bit too strong for me tbh. I’ve been happy with my medication level when the effects plateau but the acceleration from sober to stoned is a bit intimidating. It’s left me on the cusp of a whitey on a couple of occasions.
The heat retention is also a bit of a challenge to deal with after hitting it. I know it’s not designed for the Joystik but has anyone tried fitting it in the Tempest 2 case? The magnets and silicone lining sound like they would be very useful for this kind of vape!
edited to add: None of this is really a criticism of the vape. It works as advertised! This has just been my first experience with any ball style vape and the strength took me by surprise

Just reread this thread and Troy’s and Jerry’s reviews. I was thinking about a simrell hydro (with a Sherlock or such) for my next VAS target once I get enough built up in the weed budget. I’m really intrigued by the heating zones because I’ve never used a conduction heavy vape and want to see what I think about it. But this looks like a really good (and cheap) way to get a ball vapey experience. No plans for an ih rn so they’d both be torch powered.
I realize they are completely different vapes but wanted to get some opinions from people who have used both. What does the collective think?
edit: Just remembered that dynavap is largely conduction. Bought a used m7 a month ago but haven’t been able to try it yet because of this damn employment related tbreak I’ve been on (should be over soon). I guess that will tell me what I think about conduction. But I’d still like to know people’s thoughts

This is very interesting to me @scrubadub and welcome to the community. I’ve been looking at the Joystick sale for my first Stick vape. I prefer I milder build up to my medication. Seems like the Joystick Smacks you if I’m understanding correctly. Have you played with heating to slow that down?
Hey, yes that’s right. It really smacks me! I have played around with how I heat it but I’m using a torch and I’m finding it a bit unpredictable from a cold start. It’s either very wispy or combusted. After watching a few youtube videos on it I found a tip suggesting heat cycling it before loading it. This works much more predictably but it’s really intense. I’ll probably mix in more of my CBD flower next time. Hopefully that will tame it a bit. The flavour is fantastic with it so I’m hoping it works out.
A friend of mine has a Dani Fusion 2 and I find that much easier to heat and it doesn’t trebuchet me out of sobriety in quite the same way. It can slap you but with the two silver rings it’s easier to control the heat and sip it. For me anyway, no doubt there’s a ton of user error on my part with the Joystik. I’ve not had it long.

I wonder if using an IH like YLL would change the hit strength at all? So it doesn’t Smack you in the Face Potency. I’m not sure if that’s how it works I’m still Fairly New to Vaporizing
Yes, but the YLL is actually a touch underpowered for the JoyStik. Flare 2.0 works better for it, but yes you can go for a more light roast

I know the Wand gets “heat” on here (jk) but I was curious if it works ok with the Joystick? Fairly certain my VAS goblin has this one next in the NeedIt list. Last thing the tolerance needs right now, but best to have a plan and didn’t I read somewhere about a Sale or discount?! 
I think I can be patient.

Just for the alternative view err I use yll ih 3 daily and have done with various sticks simrell / tempest 2/ anvill but not the joystick.
It’s the consistency of the heater and being able to dial it in.For instance currently it’s used with anvil by vestratto I have it at 70watts for 55 seconds and have no intention of changing settings anytime soon if get me.Couldnt go back to lighters etc
I’m likelly in the minority tho.

It’s too underpowered, even the YLL is borderline.
It shines with a torch or something like the Flare that can push slightly higher wattage

What would be a solid base line to use The Flare on a Joystick. For someone not after a OHE and trying to tone down the hit potency.
I’d say 95 watt, 60 seconds and go up or down from there for what you’re after.
I just ran a cycle at 90w 50seconds and it was extremely whispy.
