This thing has a screen, buttons, a PCB, probably gaskets… it can’t be all metal in the first place.

I reached out to the OCARENA ONE team regarding a concern I had about potential metal dust generated by the rotating chamber mechanism. Since the rotating assembly makes contact with the body of the vaporizer, I asked whether wear between those parts could release particles that might eventually be inhaled.
This was their response:
“Regarding your concern. We are aware of the discussions regarding potential wear between internal components. This has been considered throughout the design and testing process, and based on our testing, we have not found it to be an issue.”
I thought I’d share their official response here, as I know a few people had raised the same concern.
By the way, I also saw on OCARENA’s Instagram that they’re redesigning the device to use two standard 18650 batteries instead of proprietary batteries. It’s great to see them listening to community feedback and making changes before the product is even released.

I guess it’s great they pivoted off a proprietary battery to an 18650? Why not a 21700? Isn’t that the more “current” battery standard?
if this vape ends up being $700-800 USD, my expectation would be that it takes a 21700!
21700s are bigger so 2 of those will take up even more space compared to the 18650s. I would guess it is a design limitation but I’ll add that to my list of questions if i end up talking to the owner again.

You are correct a 21700 is slightly larger than a 18650, but with the added run-time of a 21700, maybe it’s worth it?
Not a vape designer but I’m sure any new “vape” is a running compromise! You take and maybe the design gives? I would imagine there is so much give n take, everybody is dizzy b4 a first prototype!
I’m saying design parameters/choices are subject to other design variables like battery compartment dimensions/weight, who knows there’s probably 16 considerations.
18650 is not a deal killer, most people that have 21700 also have 18650’s, so again not a deal killer per se.

it just looked a hint over engineered enough to put me off buying but i see they gone back to drawing board a bit.Hopefully it comes thru it ok.

great design, lots of talk about business and how excited everyone is, but for me the most important thing, which is the heating technology, cooling, taste and steam intensity, convection or conduction, they are absolutely silent about that…why?

When I spoke to the owner a few months back he took it apart and showed me all the different parts. He asked I not share a lot of details he gave me, so I’ve been largely silent so far but I think this info is fine to share.
It was still a prototype and they did not have a working unit yet. Nice to see the screen lit up on the one in the video!
Convection forward last i was aware and the mouthpiece was not interchangeable. I dunno if they’ve changed that or not.
From what i recall, Kristoffer said they expected a few changes. One was possibly cutting the number of chambers by one presumably for a smaller footprint, while another was looking at a different battery solution based on early feedback which looks to be done now) and their plan was to get the software sorted by October/November.
That’s likely why we have not seen one actually in use yet… I imagine they will be further along with the software in a month or two where we might start seeing some action videos.
We’re supposed to talk again once they get further along and, if that happens, I will be sure to share whatever I can about it.
