Slicing plates work best with well-cured material. If the herb is too sticky a toothed grinder (BCG/Aroma-3/etc) is recommended for best and fastest results.
Oh nice they ship to the US now. But did the price go up? I thought it was closer to $120 earlier this year for just the grinder. Maybe it’s exchange rates and new fees?
@DrGP how is the sharpness of the plates holding up? I love my Aromas but I want something with different grind consistency.
Also stona lover here. Sharpness of the plates I don’t see any degradation over the last 2 years or so. Sharp like first day. Some cleaning of the wood from time to time and submerge the disc in iso. The wood on the inner side I only clean with cotton cloth and warm water. That’s all it needs. The rest of the resin on the inside will protect the wood. On the outside I use the stoma wax. Side by side result with OM Aroma 3
I got one a couple years back and used it exclusively until very recently (A-3). The Stona is great. Super consistent fluffy grind and rarely needs cleaning. It manages to keep most stems on the plate, which is just amazing. The extra storage on top is nice for AVB too. Shit, I may go back after the A-3 honeymoon phase!
Thats the big plate first and the consistency. With the big one the whole process is a bit faster. The grinding itself is with the small plate and the consistency afterwards.
Owning a Stona for ~2 years now and it was worth the money. On the old FC there was a user who had issues with his plates becoming dull, but I may recall it was a heavy user with low maintenance.
Only wish: make a smaller version (as in height) as I don’t need the compartment and to get the lid for the glass as a separate item (55 for a stonito on top of 129 for the stona ist just too expensive).
If you want to grind a bigger load of really moist/fresh cured weed, a classic grinder like an OMD or BCG with sharp teeth will be better suited (IMHO). But with smaller portions and just some additional time you’ll get real nice fluffy results with the stona.
I’ve never heard about it before and gotta say it’s gorgeous and the wood makes it quite unique
I didn’t know I needed a new grinder after getting the ss bcg but this being in EU and not having to deal with customs this time around are very tempting
I have some strawberry banana I can’t get over 56% in the jars and that might suit the Stona perfect
I also store some at 62%, others at 58%. The stona works with both of them. The key in my opinion is a good curing, so the flower gets the same level through the nugs. Grinding them too fast, like 2 or 3 weeks in jars, the result is not that good. A grinder with teeth would be better suited. But a good hardened out flower also will work with the stona. I’m pretty sure the flower from the video above was stored at 62%. If not in long time storage, at least in the jar for daily use there’s a 62% pack
I’ve had my Stona grinder for around 4 years now, it’s the nicest grinder for me by a mile and I own a few. Just the ease of use, the grind (small & medium plate are excellent for joints and vaporizers respectively), ease of cleaning it and ultimately its beauty and aesthetic apeal make it my number 1.
Just wanted to show my quick cleaning routine for the stona. I use it together with Aroma 3 almost every day. From the amount I would say medium user, so as heavy user the cleaning would probably be more often. From time to time I quickly brush the plate and edge into the glass jar, that’s a couple of seconds. The glass plate is fixed by magnets. Every couple of month, maybe 6 month or so, I’ll do a deep clean.
I use some Isopropyle 99%, a brush and a cotton cloth
In between I clean the wooden inner part. For this I use simply a cotton cloth and warm water. Rub the inside, that’s all it needs. The resin will be removed only by this and the tiny rest of resin will coat the wood. There’s no need to use wax or oil on the inside as soon as the grinder is used for a while because the resin will do the same job. On the outside I apply some stona Wax once a year. Every Carnauba e.g. or bees wax will work there depending if you prefer a matte or a shiny appearance. For the top part I don’t do much. It will get some buildup, but that doesn’t affects the function. I cut the back of the brush, so that I can clean between the pattern, that works pretty good. Never use metal since it can damage the wood!
After this the jar and plate is emptied and cleaned with water and everything is clean for new use
