I’m storing my glass and ball vape equipment (PID, coil, stand, etc) in moving boxes wrapped in some bubble wrap currently when we are taking trips to and from our vacation place during the summer, but I want to have some nicer cases with better protection for the packing and back and forth travel (plus easy storage at home when I won’t use them for a while).
I’ve bought the small or medium hard case with the pluckable memory foam from Harbor Freight, and it works ok for my Huni Badger, but it is nowhere near “nice” looking and an OCD part of me apparently really doesn’t like plucking memory foam squares which leaves gaps.
So my question is what cases do y’all use for storage and transport of hardware and small to large glass, and does anyone have tips or guidance on how I could get better custom cut foam that more cleanly matches the lines of the devices or accessories I’m putting in? I’ve read you can use a hotknife or something I think to cut the foam but I don’t even know where to begin on that front.

This is something that’s begging for folks to step up and 3D scan or manually sculpt 3D printed “foam” (TPU comes to mind) which could be modular and printed to fit a variety of cases.
I’m not good enough of a designer to do it, but I might be able to reach out to someone else.
Man that would be pretty cool, I didn’t realize 3d printed foam was a thing! I’d be interested though I don’t have a 3d printer… would be awesome if someone could make them! There are apps you can use to do the 3d scan of an object with your phone iirc for those so it sounds like a viable option.
Well, it’s not really foam, but you can print TPU that’s rubbery, almost silicone in vibe. Since you can control Infill and such, I would imagine that it’s pretty simple to dial in something protective.
I’ve done a bit as far as 3D printing inserts for some of my vapes. Recently started looking into getting custom foam for a few set ups.
Mycasebuilder has a tool for converting pictures into cutout. Seems to be $50-250 range depending upon the size and weather you just want foam or foam+case.
Tooltrace is a app someone made for making outlines for toolbox foam inserts.
They look much like the “Pelican Case”, which are waterproof and very strong. They have pre-cut foam so they are easy adaptable to whatever you want to store.
I use a hard case like this for my ball vape setup and accessories. The blue case has all my bowls, brushes, scoops and misc parts. I also can put all this into a small camera bag that I can post a pic of later.
Yes it’s sold as a gun case but this is murica, goddammit!
Cheap as hell, airtight, and lockable (if you care). Comes with pick and pull foam but I got kaizen type foam to replace it.
BTW, that’s enough foam to fill 3 of those cases, which is what I bought because they were on sale for like $11.
Haven’t actually done it yet but the plan is to cut out compartments in 2 layers then be able to carry my Solo 3, grinder, stems, stash jar etc. with a custom spot for every piece. Just need an exacto knife and a reasonably steady hand.
They sell a bunch of bigger sizes too (for bigger guns, obviously) so you theoretically could make one for your UB dual PID banger/dry herb setup, plus your favorite glass
Look at the picture with the lock, on the right, there you can see the quality. Doesn’t look very well crafted to me. For just put something away on a shelf it might be ok.
This is what i have my huni badger pro in and the reason for this topic, actually. It does the job but I don’t like it. It’s bulky, doesn’t have nicely finished edges, and the foam is ok but what i was hoping to replace with something more snuggly cut vs pluck foam so it looks proper and professional.
It is great for the price if you just need something and don’t care so much on quality.
Edit it didn’t see the previous posts above yours @Rodney! I might try that foam out in the case to see how it goes. I wanna just toss my huni badger pro and use it for something else lol. That is a piece of shit device that always tastes burned.
That was me. I inspired myself to actually try cutting the foam for the case lol. Tomorrow I’ll add pics of how it came out. Need to figure out if there’s some way to make the the compartments less ragged looking but all in all it looks pretty good. And I think there’s no way anything is going to get damaged unless the case gets crushed.
Here are the pics of my Solo 3 case. The red foam looks kinda raggedy. Maybe actual Kaizen Foam would look better, idk. I think I’ll try buffing the insides of the compartments with the dremel and see if that helps. Overall, though, I’m really pleased with the results. Three layers of that foam completely fill the inside of the case.
