Hey I got an Elev8r recently and use it with a torch. I want to add balls to it to help with heat retention so I don’t have to reheat it as much. I’ve seen not to use ruby balls with it if using the the torch, although some say it’s fine if you underfill it to leave room for thermal expansion. What size should I get, 3mm? Any opinion on rubies vs quartz or other materials to extend heat cycles?
Imo, retire that relic or just slow your draw
If I were modding an elev8r today I’d use 2mm ruby balls

Haha, it’s a relic yes but hey I’m still going to mess around with it once in a while. I like how I can vape around .25g and the ABV turns a nice brown but I’m not totally obliterated. I got used to using around that much and then I loaded the same in my 18mm quartz cap and got totally, uncomfortably blasted. I am sure 2mm balls will fall out of the intake hole, so I guess I’ll have to put a screen on that end too.

I remember that using it with a torch whilst filled with balls was not reccommended due to cracking risks, i only ran it with balls using the Coiled version and mine cracked, i still own a couple of elev8rs but they’re retired.

I saw this idea somewhere else and decided to try it since I had a broken quartz banger on hand. I smashed, sifted and washed the banger and filled the heater with the pieces. It worked! Heat retention is much better, it’s worth the gas now. It ain’t ready to retire yet!

This thing is the ultimate piece for chilling on the deck for me. It’s not the most efficient, the most optimal, or the most pocketable, but when I want to just sit back for 5-10min, it satisfies. I load ~.15g, heat it up for 45-50 seconds, get a few massive clouds and then some nice soft vapor over what feels like a minute or two, heat again for 30 seconds and sip on it another couple minutes until it’s kicked. The whole experience of heating the quartz and then holding that hot glass is a real primal feeling.
