Aroma-3-XL Lids

Hey all! Thought I’d share a FreeCAD file for a lid to the Aroma-3-XL grinder. I was sent a step file ages ago on FC, but I wanted something I could easily modify. Took some measurements and cobbled one together in FreeCAD. Literally just disks added and subtracted from each other. I’m a complete amateur in CAD so I’m sure there’s a better way to do it, but this works. Currently designed for 1/4" x 1/8" magnets to be pushed in, but I also included cutouts for the screws to be swapped in.

The stock plate is 4.5mm thick, but I’d suggest you play with thickness. I had one CNC’d out of brass with an extra 1mm of thickness and the step looks good I think. Anyways, yours to play with now.

I love the protrusion that extra mm gives that brass plate! I never saw it before your pic but with your plate the grinder becomes the steampunk choice. Sexy stuff!

I think it looked a bit better before I polished it tbh. I’m wondering if an old dark wood of some sort would work, perhaps Coccobolo. As much as I love the brass, it is a bit heavy. Nice in your hands and spins forever, but the fear of dropping the lid when I open it up is there every time.

Wood works! Will need to change the red dust guard, but the test piece came out pretty good I think.

The lack of woodworking tools was a bit of a challenge, but a little bit of cheating did the trick. A printed 3.5mm thick lid with magnets pushed in, glue on a 1mm sheet of walnut, then a half hour of sanding the edges down. Couple applications of beeswax and voila! Might make another one with a thinner lid so the wood sits recessed, but I think this works well for a cheap alternative to a solid hardwood lid.
