A thread to vent, mourn and commiserate with other glass busters.
Too many tales of favourite glass pieces lost due to carelessness to want to remember. My most recent ‘FaaaaaKKKKK! moment: bought a nice little balled stem for the Go SRT. First … washed it ….. and on my 6 steps from my sink to my vape station I fucking dropped it on a tile floor and bust the bowl portion off. Rest of the stem somehow stayed intact, just no bowl section. FAAAAAKKK!! Didn’t even get to try it.
I’ve broken 2 glass bowls by not pulling my Freight Train Pro out of the bowl straight. $20-$25 a pop.
Now I use a straight fab, and I can rest my index finger on the handle.
I’ve had to ban a certain sink when cleaning my glass pieces. The most convenient sink, a porcelain coated cast iron sink in my kitchen eats glass like it’s breakfast. One tap on that sink and your glass is busted. I now use a stainless steel sink in the laundry room for all glass cleaning. Oddly, the cast iron one only wants to destroy my bongs and pipes, especially the heady ones. Whiskey glasses and coffee cups don’t seem to be affected. Weird!
I remember hearing this phrase back on FC:
“Two is one and one is none.”
Meaning that you should buy two of any glass piece that you really like because at some point, you’re gonna break it. It’ll likely be in some stoned haze where you’re fumbling around like a drunk gorilla. 
I think this is why I fell hard for zirconia pieces when they started popping up. A material that tastes like glass but is way more durable. It’s got downsides too but durability usually isn’t one of them.
It makes sense to me, a stainless steel sink has a very slight give even at very small forces. It can be hard to perceive sometimes. That little bit of flex is likely eating enough of the small bumps to not fracture the glass, being a bit elastic.
The enameled cast iron is going to yield almost none in comparison.
My sink is stainless but has two basins, and I’m always scared of breaking glass on the divider. Hasn’t happened yet though,
I just don’t get why the cast sink doesn’t break regular glass like it breaks expensive heady glass pieces. Never broke a $5 whiskey glass but have broken a couple of nice bongs with just a slight tap on the sink edge. Yep, a SS sink is your best bet.
id say 3 I killed a Gooroo HD3 and a Tag Ratchet Bubbler playing battle bongs in the sink lol
Tragedy my dual perc hd3 is my main piece love it. So far only lost had the sink claim it’s first downstem lol.
Flirting with disaster by having so many glass pieces together …… the evil cast iron sink nearby.

I am not to be trusted around glass at all. This is OK because I dislike everything about using water for vaping. Even after a small hit, the water smells nauseating to me.
I do however have to use a dry piece of glass with some vapes:
Qaroma, FlowerKettle/Electropath, Pinky Etc.
When individuals donate vapes to me to share with the community, I open the boxes on the floor with blankets beneath , because if there is the smallest piece of glass involved, I will likely break it, or drop it. Heck, I break pieces of glass that I don’t even see! I will be working with the vape, the box or tools, and will suddenly hear a faint “TINK”.
Small glass parts are the worst for me.
I have managed to keep 2 pieces of glass that have survived for the past 15 years. One survived because it’s a heavy solid piece in my Electropath-Cannabis Hardware suitcase.
I use it dry, and wash it with Iso.
The other piece of glass is a Chinese Bubbler from Ali Express or a shop that is similar. Long ago it was referred to as a “D20”.
It’s wide base helps, along with the open design. It gets put away instantly on a shelf between items that do not let it gravitate toward the shelf’s front!
When patients that I see, who I realize are as potentially awkward around glass as I am, I generally recommend:

I won this piece in a raffle at a head shop where my band played when they were having a festival. I put 1 jar of badder through it with a quartz banger and torch, and then used it with a regular flower bowl and combustion for a while, then stopped smoking regularly through it for a couple years. Last year I got all the nasty smoke resin out of it after trying like 10 cleaning techniques and finally got it clean to use with vapes. This rig and the quartz cap got me to abandon smoking. I really liked the size of it and how the smoke/vapor swirled and filled up the little globe at the top. I put it in a filing cabinet drawer to store it and it must have tipped and banged around and the top broke off. It’s outdated I guess and I haven’t been able to find anything quite like it for a price I’m willing to pay.
