This is a bit weird for the forum, but I hope you’ll go with me on this.
I recently built a home server out of my previous workstation. It is laughably overpowered for the job. That wasted potential got me thinking about ethical, pragmatic uses for AI.

I’m not talking about server farms or generative, derivative AI. Fuck that shit.
I’m creating personal assistants for my home: One for appointments, dates, wellness, etc.; one for media management (music, film, gaming), one for the server itself, and, finally, one for keeping track of my stash. I’m naming him Tommy (yes, I know. Very original. ).
Tommy will be able to catalogue the strains I keep on hand, track how much I have left based on weight and dosing capsule refills, and advise me on similar strains by aggregating reviews from various sources/cross referencing terpene content.
My question to you all: if you were building Tommy, what features would you want him to have? What would having a cannabis-first assistant be in your world?
Disclaimer: I have no plans to make Tommy publicly available or to sell anything based off of the idea, though I’d be happy to share prompts and tool calls for anyone wanting to build their own.
I would have a feature that helped you get your tolerance down. So you would have all the strains with % of THC and when you trigger tolerance mode every few days it gives you strains with less and less % of THC so you can get that tolerance way down.
Also a money saving mode. So you would have all the strains and cost in $ right? so when you activate money saving mode it gives you strains that are cheap but still finds strains with high % THC and cheap deals.
You could set something up for Indica And Sativa but not sure what that would work like as so many hybrids now.
I definitely hear you on the Indica/Sativa/Hybrids. Tracking terpene and THC percentages are what are meant to mitigate that confusing dataset, so, good callout.
As for the tolerance feature, I would have completely skipped that, and it makes absolute sense.

Personally I’d have it speak to me in a rather dapper fashion; referring to me as “my good fellow” or “old chap” sort of phrasings if you get me; I would just get a kick out of it.
I’d also have a star system employed where regularly Tommy solicits feedback on the strains in the form of stars. So that whenever we converse or discuss a strain it would be like:
Me: Tommy recommend me a strain for __ & __(depending factors)
Tommy: Certainly old chap, I dare say Mango Haze would be an eloquent selection based on your query terms and you last scored it 3 stars.
Obviously there’s so many ways to configure things like what your stars depend on like potency; enjoyment of experience & other factors. That’s up for the beholder to choose but I’d think it would be cool to have that little extra personal history going along with things so there’s a comfortable rubric one could employ to help simplify categorizing for selections.
Yes, voice response capability and Matt Berry as the reference voice. Any and all positive AI just works with his voice… just ask General Atomics International about 10 years from now.
I think a catergory for the activity you were going to do. Such things as gaming,listening to tunes,watching a movie or even things like housework or cooking.
One feature I would definitely add to Tommy is the ability to search what’s actually available at dispensaries within a certain radius and then rank those strains based on whatever experience I’m looking for.
For example, I could tell Tommy: “Find me the 10 strongest strains currently available near me,” or “I want something heavy and relaxing,” “something more creative and functional,” or whatever criteria I’m looking for.
Ideally, it would take the current menus from nearby stores, filter out anything that isn’t actually in stock, and then cross-reference the remaining strains with recent community feedback from Reddit and other cannabis forums, preferably prioritizing reports from the last 30 days. It could also factor in things like terpene profiles, potency, genetics, reported effects, price, etc.
I’ve actually been doing something very similar manually with Grok for about three months. I give it the menus from stores around me and ask it to analyze and rank what’s available according to my criteria and recent community reviews. It works surprisingly well and saves me a ridiculous amount of time compared with researching every strain individually.
So for me, that would be a killer feature for Tommy: “Tell me what I’m looking for, and Tommy tells me the best options I can actually go buy nearby right now.”
That’s a really cool idea, but it’s completely depends on how accurately the dispenseries publish their inventory online, plus whether or not they have aggressive scraping protection.
That sounds interesting. You could punch in your schedule and have “Tommy” recommend cultivars for that day. Maybe even suggest what form to use, bud, concentrate or cart depending on personal preference and schedule circumstance. The shopping part would be hard. Too many variables like dry dusty flower or hardened concentrate. At some point your 5 senses have to get into the game.
