It looks like fiberglass has been found on the wire insulation inside the Vapbong heater
I don’t understand the full context - but the technical data sheet does indeed say fiberglass

Was the heater design changed at some point?
In earlier videos he used to use hand wound and wired kanthal coils.
That’s a production cartridge heater.
They aren’t really designed for the same job.
Cartridge heaters are known to overheat without good direct conduction contact, if it’s just floating like the first picture shows it may have very well overheated.

Does it have an updated heater? I remember an old video of Collie making that thing by wrapping bare kanthal wire around what looked like a homemade ceramic rod.

our newer vapbongs have this cartridge heater
i remember comparing it and noticing that it didn’t have that strong kanthal taste like the OG, but apparently it has fiberglass on the wire insulation

Probably a stainless steel sheath.
Definitely that could happen if the cartridge overheated.
Braided stainless terminations would be one solution. The cartridges can be ordered in all kinds of different wiring materials.
Hello everyone,
I am writing to issue an urgent warning regarding a serious health hazard associated with vaporizers sold by the company “Jaxels Art.” Please read this information carefully and share it with others who may be using these devices.
The Problem
These devices utilize high-performance heating cartridges manufactured by the Spanish company R.C.I.. According to the manufacturer’s official technical data sheets, these components are intended solely for industrial use in closed systems and must be installed by qualified personnel. The connection leads of these cartridges feature fiberglass insulation.
Jaxels Art installs these cartridges into their vaporizer ceramic housings in a way that leaves this fiberglass insulation completely exposed directly within the air path of inhalation. Due to extreme temperature fluctuations during heating and cooling, as well as mechanical friction within the housing, this fiberglass becomes brittle over time and pulverizes.
Health Consequences
This means that end users are inhaling microscopic glass fibers and mineral dust directly into their lungs. There are already several users who have reported severe, medically documented respiratory illnesses and lung damage. Additionally, Jaxels Art conducts uncontrolled “burn-in” processes after installation, which leaves toxic chemical residues in the inhalation path.
Steps Taken So Far

I have reported the case to the relevant German and European consumer protection authorities.

I have filed a formal criminal complaint with the appropriate police department.

I am currently in direct contact with the Spanish manufacturer of the heating cartridges to inform them about the dangerous misuse of their components by Jaxels Art, so they can take legal action and ideally stop supply.
What You Can Do
If you own one of these devices, please stop using it immediately. Your health is at risk. If you are already experiencing health issues after using such a device, please consult a doctor immediately and file a report with the police. The more official reports that are filed, the faster authorities can intervene to remove these dangerous devices from the market.

Yeah, used to be kanthal, then moved to cartridge heaters.
This video shows a good bit of detail. Between air being pulled directly around the cartridge where the fiberglass could fray, and having both leads just flopping around outside, passing through ceramic. it’s not great…

Most of the cartridge heaters have a stainless shell yeah.
I think the stainless braid ones often have a fiberglass insulator still though. Some thermocouples i got are like that.
I use silicone insulation sealed outside of the airpath and ss tubes crimped to make contacts for my log. Could work for this maybe as a modification.

This video details the switch to the heater cartridge. I’d rather have a kanthal one for sure if I had to have one.
I was delaying ordering the updated heater for my Vapbong. Are you guys saying I did the right thing?

The manufacturer of the heating cartridges is also linked, and it states there in black and white that fiberglass is used, and all of that stuff is inside the air channel of the vaporizer.

I need to urgently warn you about the original Kanthal heaters designed by Felix and Donald Denzler. Even though it is an older model, it is absolutely not safe. The entire construction has a critical flaw. The device features a completely open cable channel, meaning the air path is not sealed off from the internal electronics. The airflow is drawn directly right through this cable channel. The specific cable insulation used in these devices is made of FEP or PTFE plastic. This material is only rated to withstand temperatures up to 205 degrees Celsius. Since the heating elements inside reach much higher temperatures, this insulation can easily degrade, melt, and release toxic fumes directly into the air you inhale. Please do not use it anymore to protect your health. You can verify this yourself by watching Felix Denzler’s own video. What you tasted was not the Kanthal wire, it was actually the cable insulation. These people are German dropouts and hippies who have absolutely no technical understanding, they should have never installed these components into vaporizers in the first place.
Jaxels Art completely misappropriated and misused these cartridge heaters. I am currently in contact with the Spanish cartridge heater company, I am waiting for their feedback so that shipments to them can be stopped. They might also take legal action to protect themselves against Jaxels Art because the German authorities have already been informed. I have officially filed a criminal complaint and application for prosecution for commercial fraud and attempted bodily harm.
Furthermore, Jini and Axel know exactly what they are doing. They delete chat histories as soon as someone catches onto their dangerous cartridge heaters in order to cover up their tracks. They are deliberately risking the health of their customers just to finance their dropout lifestyle in Portugal.
If you have no other choice, you can technically remove the Kanthal wire from the insulation and strip the insulation completely so that you only have bare wires inside the cable channel. However, the major problem is that you still draw a massive portion of your airflow directly through that cable channel anyway. You can easily test this yourself by taping up the bottom hole where the cable comes out of the vaporizer, if you do that, you will notice that barely any airflow comes through the six small holes on the heater. You are pulling a huge amount of air through the cable channel, which should absolutely never happen.
These people have no clue about engineering, and I would definitely say Jini and Axel are fully aware of the severe dangers of their cartridge heaters.
