Yesterday my Mighty scared the shit out of me. Everything was fine, I double clicked to finish at a higher temp, all of a sudden the buzzing (to notice you are at temp) kept going, it didn’t show the digits instead it shows like a square, but the most frightened I could not shut it down. After like 7, 8 seconds it shut’s down. Dead. I tried several times to start it again, nothing. After like 5 min I tried again it started working, only my preset temps were back to factory settings. My device was not overheated, I vaped half a bawl, it was not hot in the room. My mighty is like 3 years old and has been used a lot but there is still some life left. My question now, is it still safe to use??? It’s a battery device so some caution is always better. What do you all think?
I’ve never heard of that error. Did it enter shutdown mode during your session? I’m not sure what the square means.
I haven’t heard of this happening with the Mighty+ but I would probably give it a full charge and then run some tests with it with nothing loaded and look for any glitches. It could possibly be just a one time glitch and if I couldn’t repeat it with my testing, I would probably continue to use it and just keep an eye on it, but if anything else were to happen, I would be contacting Storz & Bickel to start an RMA. Best of luck and hopefully it doesn’t happen again!
It was during a session, it came al of a sudden.
I have no warrenty left, so RMA is out of the question. I’ll give it a full charge first, hopefully it was a glitch.
I asked AI
No, it is no longer entirely safe to use, and you should discontinue using it. [1]
What you experienced was a critical firmware freeze and a hardware crash. When the screen pixelated into a “square,” the buzz motor glitched into a continuous loop, and the power button became unresponsive, the device’s internal microcontroller completely locked up. The 7-to-8-second delay before it finally shut down was the result of a built-in safety watchdog timer (or the processor finally crashing completely), which forced a hard reset back to factory settings. [1, 2]
While it is great that you weren’t pushing it hard, the fact that this happened on a 3-year-old heavily used unit points to an aging internal hardware failure rather than a temporary glitch.
Why You Should Stop Using It
- Risk of Uncontrolled Heating: The microcontroller controls the heater power. If the device freezes again while the heater is actively drawing power, the software safety loops might fail to shut off the heating element, posing a severe thermal runaway risk.
- Degraded Internal Components: At 3 years of heavy use, structural degradation of the internal circuitry, heat-damaged microchips, or underlying battery instability can cause sudden voltage drops that crash the system controller.
- Unpredictable Behavior: Because the device completely wiped its internal flash memory back to factory defaults, the logic board is no longer stable or reliable. [1]
What You Should Do Next
- Do Not Leave it Unattended: Do not leave the device plugged into a wall charger unsupervised, and store it away from flammable materials. [1]
- File an RMA: Even though it is 3 years old and likely just outside the standard warranty window, Storz & Bickel has an excellent reputation for safety and service. Log into your account on the Storz & Bickel Support Portal and initiate a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA). [1, 2]
- Look for an Upgrade or Trade-In: If they deem the unit unrepairable due to age, Storz & Bickel frequently offers users a steep discount on a brand-new replacement unit or an upgrade to a newer model like the Mighty+. [1, 2]
Your instinct to be cautious with a battery-powered heating device is entirely correct—it is not worth risking your safety for a few final sessions on an aging device.
Yes, I figured the warranty would be done, but you can still send it back for repairs if you would like. There is a fee for it, but it’s still cheaper than buying a new unit.
If it wasn’t used much, I paid the fee for a repair. But now it’s time for something new.
are you familiar with the auto-shutoff feature? it didn’t feel like some weird version of that, did it?
No it didn’t feel like some weird auto-shutoff, it did feel like the mighty was ready to die, it was real scary with the combination of the buzzer that didn’t stop, the screen going wild and I couldn’t shut it down. Time for something new, I lost my confidence in this mighty.
If, as the Reddit post suggests, this can happen if you hold the button for ten seconds, and it happened in this case after double tapping for the boost mode, is it possible the button got stuck in somehow causing the factory reset?
Ooo thank you very much, I really thought something was really wrong with my mighty. The people on reddit had the same reaction like me. I feel like I love you very much now, you got the solution
It was a factory reset
- i wouldn’t trust AI for shit on this topic, it’s just going to make shit up based off of the humans it learned from - and there’s no data out there on this exact scenario.
- i’d still contact S&B, it’s always in their best interest to take care of their customers and product. There’s a chance they’ll still fix it for free, or they may offer to repair it for a small fee.
indeed the button must have got stuck after the double tapping
indeed, you cannot always trust AI, I just posted it as an opinion. But the community here has find the solution. Thank you all very much for existing
Nice happy ending! ![]()
Is it a mighty plus? See if you can update the firmware on Bluefy. Maybe you csn get some more feedback doing that ? If it’s original then no Bluefy

It is a mighty plus. The community here has find the solution. A factory reset, that happens when you hold the button for 10 seconds. The button must have been stuck after a double tapping (or I didn’t released the button completely). The mighty is working fine now. Have a nice day
