Motorized grinders: Friend or Foe? You be the judge

Mamba XL 2g grinder is our go to, especially for refilling dosing capsules. For around $35 USD, you can’t beat it. We’ve had our first since Summer 2024, and our second since November 2025. They just plain work. The only drawback is there’s no cap for storing extra grounds, so keep a vacuum canister handy.

Highly recommended.

Anyone else use something like this?

I just got a Kactus Kutter K2. It’s harder to press the button on than I expected, but when my wrists and hands are hurting it’s much less painful than a manual grinder. I like the grind on medium and coarse, but haven’t tried fine yet, it included all 3 plates.

It also is lacking in a lid for the weed storage area. A lid would have cost them what, a nickel? A lid would have given it extra points and gone a long way to make up for the difficulty pressing the grind button.

I’ve never had an electric grinder that I’ve liked for myself - but several members have sent me links to this one with votes of confidence.

It makes a lot of sense for certain user requirements.

You’re saying it makes a mess?

On the Kactus it’s not a mess, so har it seems as clean as my manual grinders, but withy no cover for the weed compartment, it goes stale too fast if you don’t immediately transfer to a better storage. Those Tight Vac things POTV is always giving away work great for storage though, and the funnel from the UB makes it easy and neat to transfer the flower. My manual grinders would keep the weed for long enough to use the extra.

Where the grinder I use excels is that the trigger is very easy to pull, and the POTV tight vacs are perfect to tap out any remaining flower.

I’ve considered the Kactus Kutter, but I am not going to be purchasing anything that aggravates my arthritic hands. Eff that.

Yeah, mine is the K2, which is a bigger model. I wish I had got the smaller one, but if my hands aren’t bothering me I usually use the manual grinders anyway. One nice thing about the KK is that it works horizontally also, so I can put nugs in, and lay it on it’s side so I can push with 2 hands rather than squeeze.

The Mamba might be a good stand-in for your KK on rougher days. Hair trigger on that fella.

I also got this one, the green model. It’s okay for me, no problems with the buttons (or my hands). It can be very noisy sometimes. Started doing that after a while. Still grinds good tho.

I’ve been amazed by the grind. If I knew the grind was that good, I probably would have bought an electric grinder earlier. You don’t see many people reviewing or even talking about them.

Durability is the biggest complaint I’d seen in the past. I havent used one but i imagine they dull faster than nice grinders which may result in the flower drying out faster. I think they are awesome for your type of need and may pick one up to try at some point.

I’m glad to see us discussing these here - they’re a great tool for multiple usage cases.

I don’t think that any one grinder, mechanical or electric, is the be all, end all. These discussions might inspire someone to create a hybrid grinder that satisfies on all fronts.

Then again, I’m an idealist.:joy:

I used an electriccoffee grinder for awhile. It worked ok, I just don’t like the noise. Have a grinder somewhere that used batteries, but I fell out of love, or it got packed up when we started renovations on the house.
Glad they are an option. Now I slather on canna salve and figure grinding is hand exercise keeping me limber.

I tried the coffee grinder, but no matter how quick I released the button, half of what was ground seemed to be powder. That is what kept me away from electrics for so long.

Yup, plus it tasted like coffee when I vaped. :hot_beverage:

It was only in use when I was wearing a cast on my dominant hand/wrist, and I was happy to pack it up when the cast came off. I prefer a coarse grind, and the powder was unsatisfying. Haven’t even considered another until now, but it appears that there are better options available.

I personally use the waket grinder. it is great for people with arthritis or limited mobility. you just set it over the top of your flower and push the top down a little bit it works with a ball and chain that spins with a motor. If you run it too much it will powder your flower. Definitely a must-have

I’be been using a Kactus Kutter K2 for about 2 months now and it works great. My hands have been way to beet up over the years and the button is much easier for me to press then any grinder I’ve turned. Not that I’ve tried all the manual options by a long shot. The Herb Mill in stainless steel looks intresting. And the larger (I think) K5 KK herb mill is a press down from the top, not a squeeze in from the side button. It looks like the K5 might easier to use… maybe.

The Kactus Kutters are actually an herb mill also, so there are no sharp teeth to dull out and all of the differnt size “grinding” plates are made of stainless steel. Fingers crossed it lasts me a long, long time.

In about 2 mins I could have 7.5g ground up or more easily if i wanted to. The milling area holds 3g and I store the ground flower in an airtight glass jar. I just got rid of the keif screen. I like the trichomes kept in the flower.

I loved that they made the screen optional! Like you, I took it out, but usually I need tools if I want the screen gone and then the grinder looks trashy.

Exactly. The last time I tried to remove a keif screen I ended up tossing out a kinda cheapish $25 grinder from the local tabacco/smoke shop. If I couldn’t take out the screen I was thinking about a Santa Cruz Shredder 3-piece.
