I’m officially part of the droolers club. The first hit on the XL was a flower hash blend. 2.4g flower 1.1g hash, ground (not all of it). These are my thoughts…. Haha
Simrell is from Ohio. Ohio, USA. Yes!
And yes, I absolutely drooled my ass off on the very first toke! Sheesh!
I recognize those binoculars. I’ve been thinking about picking up a monocular from that same brand. I just wish they had a neck strap for it, as they do for the binoculars.
I finally caved and ordered one myself, along with the titanium XL stem adapter, so I’ll add some actual user impressions once it gets here and I’ve had some time with it. I’m especially curious to see how it compares to some of the other heavy hitters in my collection. I couldn’t hold out any longer haha
Having some issues after my first cleaning in some 99% isopropyl. The click is damn near inaudible, if it happens at all now. Not sure precisely what’s up with it, but I’m gonna give it a complete teardown soon here.
Followup: This is fixed. Unscrewing the thermal exchanger from the top part of the unit frees the click discs, washing those and drying them before reassembling was what did it.
Unthreaded the main bits apart, tossed them in a Ziploc with the isopropyl and sealed it. Got it warmed up in some hot water (our heater gets to about 145f or so)
Once it was warm, I shook it around for a mini or so, took the pieces out and rinsed them in some in some hot water for a minute. Dried them off as I could, blew out what water I could and did a dry run on it to try and boil the rest of the water away.
Nothing wrong with that imo. Did you put the click disks back in correctly? They have to be like this )( with the low temp disk facing the thermal capacitor.
I’ve been using the Yocan Temporal for it and it’s perfect. Heat between the first 2 dots for 25 seconds and I get a great roast. I tried the XL in all of IHs and had no luck. I’m afraid to try the Inductor.
started running 100W 90s in the YLL3.0 yesteday, no insert, and getting A+ sessions. Clicks right at 90s, with the 2nd occurring quickly after removing. Making sure to remove right at 90s (if not a second or 2 before tbh), going further than that gets too roasty/heading towards combusty land.
Loving the ultem adapter, still glad it wasnt available while ordering. Cant wait for an even bigger regular stem solution. Now only the Hydro XL itself neeeds to arrive finally.
I didn’t realize the base is magnetic. Was able to twist the core a little farther up, but it’s a weak hold and stayed put upside down just a couple of times while trying. I’ve been flipping both (carefully) at the last thread while de-capping when it’s hot. Any bits that may end up in the cap I’ll blow out. Not ideal, but works for me.
Yeah, the discs and thermal capacitor need to be installed correctly and completely, or the magnet won’t work properly. The temperature click discs are what’s magnetic in the XL. They’re what the pins in the cooling stand connect to in order to hold the heat exchanger (cap) in place.
My capacitor would back out a little every few bowls, allowing the discs to shift out of their slot. When that happens, the magnets in the stand can’t connect properly with the discs to hold the cap.
Just remember, the low temp disc logo should face the capacitor. So install the high-temp disc in the heat exchanger first, logo facing down. Then install the low-temp disc, logo facing up so you can see the writing, followed by the capacitor. Make sure both discs are seated properly in the round slot inside the cap.
I tighten the capacitor just a little with a screwdriver to help keep it from working loose as easily. Obviously, be careful with the discs. I usually drop them in facing the opposite direction of how I want them to land because they tend to flip once on the way down. It takes a little patience until you get used to installing them.
If the discs aren’t too far out of position, you might be able to lightly shake the cap to get them seated back in the slot, then tighten the capacitor back down without having to take everything apart.
Thank you. I took it apart, carefully realigning the thermostat disks, making sure they sit in the pocket - with no success unfortunately. Seems like the pins aren’t magnetized, because the pure magnet at the underside works, while the pins do have zero effect.
