Where were you when you first saw Rush play? When you first heard Rush? Are you an old fan from way back or a newer fan? RUSH
loved them since high school in the 80’s first saw them in 2007 on the Snakes and Arrows tour when I took my 10 year old son. we loved it and I’m glad I got to see him in concert
I’ve been a fan of rush since the mid-80s when I was a kid I got to see them at Irvine Meadows in southern California in the early 90s for the roll the bones tour it was pretty awesome that night they had to what seem to be 50 foot rabbits on each side of the stage that were rocking back-and-forth and it was overcast that night and they were shooting the lasers onto the overcast clouds and it was an even better light show. I’ll never forget that concert ever.
Saw them first in 1981 on the Moving Pictures Tour. Looking forward to seeing them with the new drummer in October.
The first Rush album I bought was in 1976, “All the World’s a Stage.” I was pretty much a fan of their 70s output and their permanent waves and moving pictures albums, but beyond that I pretty much listened to the hype that their best days were behind them, so I ignored the rest of their discography.
Two years ago, I went to see a Rush cover band concert near me, and all night I saw my friends get up and go to the stage during their 1970’s stuff and come back and sit at the table for their 1980s and beyond songs.
I went home and I thought how ridiculous. I loved the albums that I knew by Rush, but it was that night that I decided to go through the entire discography and what I discovered was a great band from start to finish. No bad albums. No horrible songs. A consistent sound and an evolution that has been a pleasure to observe.
My first rush concert will be on November 27 of this year. I’m disappointed that I never got to see Neil but I will now see my favorite band of all time play all the songs I love.
I guess you could say I am a late bloomer to the fullness of Rush, but they’ve been in my heart since the mid 70s.
Did you give Power Windows a spin yet? I love that one…
Oh yea. I love Manhattan Project. Great album, but I like “hold your fire” a little bit better. I see both of those albums very much alike.
2002 Vapor Trails. I haven’t figured out which Fifty Something to attend yet, but will definitely get some tix. Great interview posted this week: https://youtu.be/GLkvbCn3xbw
My first Rush concert was during the Signals tour in '83 at the Forum in LA. My last Rush concert was in 2015 during the R40 tour at the Forum (again). It was Neil’s last show and I’m glad that I was able to take my son to see them (he was a huge fan, too).
My first concert was Rush in Saginaw Michigan back in 83 grace under pressure. The concert in Detroit in late August will be my 7th show. I was devastated when the Professor passed away just as I was when Stevie Ray Vaughan died. Love Neil’s writing too. Ghost Rider: Travels the healing road. Is a must.
Back even earlier around 81 I purchased my first 3 albums (cassettes really) from the RCA record club and those albums where….Led Zeppelin IV, Triumph Never Surender and Rush Moving Pictures. Was hooked from then on.
Loved that tour and that’s one of my favorite albums too. A lot of those songs on that album were inspired by Neil’s 14 month 45,000mile trek across Canada the US and Mexico after his personal tragedies. This trip is also the subject of his book Ghost Rider: Travels the healing road.
About 12yo after school in Melbourne Australia.
Used to play along on drums annoying the whole neighbourhood.
Now 55 and RUSH are still my favourite.
Some of their last songs are totally awesome, if it wasn’t for Neil leaving early (rip) they would still be smashing it in their 70’s.
Enduring, absolute legends.
Vancouver. The Grace Under Pressure tour. Pacific Coliseum. The T-shirt was so dope. Wore that to threads.
I’ve seen them since 5 other times.
I really want to see them with their new drummer. Did you ever see them on trailer Park boys? It’s classic Canadiana at its best.
I’ve got tickets to the show at the end of August in Detroit. I can’t wait.
I saw them on the Roll the Bones tour in '92 with Primus opening. It was my first arena show and I still think about those giant bunnies during the drum solo.
Hell yeah. I saw the Permanent Waves tour in… 79 or 80. My first album was Hemispheres, naked dude strolling across a brain. La Villa Strangiato. The Trees. Powerful creative stuff for a high schooler.
Oddly, when I first got on the medical, first thing I did was play 2112 in its entirety, then took a nap…
CR
I remember that tour well. Missed most of Primus because my buddy knew a faster way to the arena. Every tour I’ve seen has been phenomenal and can’t wait to see them at the end of August.
