Cannabis is interesting. So are the people you see in the local dispensary. There is a ratio of obviously sick people to obviously hip people. It’s a big world and a wonderful plant. There’s room for everyone. Not judging, but you do wonder about your fellow patients sometimes. Insert Oates & Garfunkel’s “Weed Card” video here - if you haven’t seen it, it’s hysterical.
What are your fellow shoppers like? I’m seeing young moms, way-cool lesbians, rasta-braid workout dudes, troubled youth - swear I saw the church altar boy there too. My favorite sale day has a name, but I call it Old Guy Wednesday, when fellow ailing greybeards line up for their stash. Seniors get a stackable discount. It’s hard to save but it’s cheap enough. Friendly budtenders. I don’t tip my regular pharmacist but this one, yes.
So. What’s your dispensary like? One in town has pool tables. Sometimes you chat with people in line. “What’s the holdup, man? Are they still growing the stuff?”
I live in a beach town. There’s a cannabis corner with four dispensaries. So a younger crowd perhaps. To say it’s widely accepted is an understatement!
Germany has no dispensaries but Cannabis Clubs now and while it sounds cool and social it’s ultimately a bare container in some industrial area where 2-3 nice guys and gals who run the show hand out pre-ordered (via app) weed grown in some other location. Pickups are timed at an interval so one doesn’t meet that many people. Smoking and vaping weed are banned in the vicinity. I hope at some point those things really become some kind of club, would look forward to spreading some vape culture.
Not sure whether other members from Germany experience this whole thing similarly.
I saw an 8’ hemp plant on a farm in Bavaria last year, but they don’t seem to have the Delta 8 derived from the stuff. In Austria they sold over the counter junky hemp THC products, which isn’t of any interest. I lost eight pounds on that trip without herb.
The Happy Marijuana Dispensary is right next door to the Happy Marijuana processing plant, which is across the room from the Happy Marijuana farm. Funny enough, none of them have employees, cash registers, or state licenses. Weird how that works.
My local area here in Michigan embraced the industry zealously upon legalization. Dispensaries popped up all over the township. Many have closed due to market dilution but there are still dozens to choose from within a 5 miles/8km radius. The state is trying to screw it up though with a new huge tax going into effect in a few months. They decided that the industry is working out so well for the state they want to squeeze as much money as they can from the consumer. Prices are currently pretty low in the state though.
The new added dispensary tax will be 24%. Add that to the state sales tax of 6% and an excise tax of 10%. Currently taxed at 16% soon to jump to 40%. Fun fun
I did local a lot a couple of years ago but the quality, freshness and selection just wasn’t anywhere close to what was available online so after I found I could order that way I only went back to get gummies or drinks for my wife. Every time I was in there I was the youngest person, and I’m about halfway through life (hopefully not further along!). It was almost always retired couples that would come in while I was there. Never saw anyone under 30 except for the people working behind the counter.
Unfortunately with current state laws and restrictions that were enacted this year the B&Ms are feeling the hurt bad and closing locations so the option I used to have doesn’t exist anymore.
As it’s illegal where I life, it’s not that easy. You need to hang around in the shady parks in a bigger city and you’ll find some. Weed can be real good or bad. I prefer the “street dealers” of Afghanistan, they have quality. 1 gram 10€ weed or hash. Sometimes you can find a house dealer which is cooler, but those addresses never last long. Or you need to cross the border with your car to the Netherlands, where they have coffeeshops, many choices but more expensive and far away.
It is a mixed bag for clientele. The Humboldt cannabis collective. Mostly people in the know ( one of 2-3 family run) that found the best prices. Each time is different but I think I go when the seasoned folk go. We have probably close to twenty tourist trap style dispos. But these guys rule. I go in with a list every time. I never end up walking out with everything I wanted but ended with a sweet deal. This time was a BOGO for the concentrate. They have a trusted sungrown brand FHWL that is grown up the hill from the town I graduated highschool. So yeah Lucky.
Interesting replies and thanks… Recently heard about five Florida sellers are getting bought by a single concern, so I’m sure higher prices will follow. Nature was indeed the original dispo when I was a kid, I’ve seen the stuff growing. I just remembered seeing Mercedes-Benz parked next to a beater car in the dispensary parking lot.
I usually mention DHV to the budtender, if I haven’t seen that person around. New dude nodded that he knew what DHV was. I said that I greatly preferred DHV to cartridges, and he snorted. “Those DHV vapes get so hot they liquify the weed, so it’s the same,” he explained.
