I was gonna send this as a PM, but decided others might be interested in the answer too. One of the major failings of FC was the apparent lack of a site back up. @420vapezone can you discuss, briefly, if the site is backed up? Thanks! And thanks for the site too!
Heck, some of us nerds would be interested to learn a little more about the hosting. Private server? Amazon or other host? Community Edition of Discourse? Are you open to plug-ins?
I was wondering this same thing but I get the feeling after what happened with FC that this place will be backed up and accessible by 3 people at least in case 1 person goes AWOL.
I am sure that was the problem with FC that only 1 guy had full access to the backup and admin side of thing and when he disappeared that is when problems started.
the site is backed up automatically and backups are stored in multiple off-site facilities.
it’s backed up daily and stored on a separate amazon AWS server (also used to host community uploads). Two admins are also downloading the backups and storing them locally.
we’re self-hosting on a VPS with plenty of power and memory.
we’ve got a couple plug-ins going now and some plans for future plugins
setting up the server properly, with daily off-site backups, was the absolute first requirement.
If you are wondering if this site can be crawled, it appears to be accessible without logging in, so crawlers should be able to see its content.
Also, if you look at https://420vapegeeks.com/robots.txt is doesn’t appear to have disallow sets for various AI crawlers, but someone with more experience with this should reply.
