One of the things I love the most about the vaporist community is the tinkering and “stoner engineering,” so here is my contribution:
I have been looking for a way to decouple the heater portion of a stick vape and the bowl/stem portion. In other words, I’ve been toying with heating the heater off of the vape and then bringing it to the bowl like one does for a ball vape. Probably the best devices would be something with a high thermal capacity: the Stunner, T2, maybe the Camouflet super capacitor, probably other devices, too, but I doubt that it would work with a vap cap
Process Idea:
Set a temp or a time on an induction heater
With the induction device off, place a cool heater in the induction device and turn it on.
When the temp/time parameter has been reached, put it on the bowl/stem and sip & rip.
Why do this, you may ask??
Well, who doesn’t want to make the ball vape experience more portable? Also, this would be the best way to avoid cooking your bud during heating. It seems like even the most convection-style stick vapes end up with a heated bowl prior to drawing - the heater is just so close to the bowl when installed.
But honestly, it’s the same reason the chicken crosses the road - to see what’s on the other side… I’m just a curious bastard who links to tinker.
The challenges are that none of the stick vape heaters have a handle. In my own experiments, I have been using a magnet to transfer the heater as quickly as possible. The vaping experience has been ok.. very clean and tasty, but the vapor production definitely suffers.
There’s a handful like this. The Modul A from Beyond The Clouds is new and not shipping to the US yet, but @Northernhigh420 has been messing with it and the V Wand.
The Verdavap 2.0 is another
and the JC Vap Crown that some of us have been playing with.
Think for me to be truly excited about this idea it’s going to require it be more full size ball vape with airflow. Otherwise it’s a threadless stick vape . I love them but basically what they are
It’s been doing hot laps around Illinois for a week they were supposed to ship it earlier but were out of stock on the Pockety at the time and then forgot for a bit lol. So hopefully this week
Here is a stick vape heating idea from my past. I dropped it for a while, but picking it back up. Just ordered materials to make something for my Simrell. Just a simple heating core that I drop into my 25mm basket coil. It was hit and miss depending on what dynavap I used. There is so much new stuff out there now, I decided to give it another try.
The heating core I used is made of stainless steel.
@GrowGoddess Was the heating core a part that you repurposed or did you custom machine that?
I’ve been thinking about getting a 25mm coil and piece of 25mm OD 1-1.5mm wall stainless tubing to heat my 18mm quartz cap, or a 20mm coil and 20mm OD tube with 1.5-2mm wall tubing to heat my Elev8r and smaller quartz caps.
The ModulA is basically what you described. It should also be available in the US soon. You can find it by searching for “Beyond the Clouds ModulA.”
It is a small, efficient, portable ball vape designed for people who want the ball-vape experience without using more than about 0.1–0.2 g. It is heated by induction, but it can also be heated with a torch. It works with the YLL IH 3.0 and the Ispire Wand.
Main goals of the design of the ModulA were efficiency, great taste, and big vapor clouds.
As an ex-smoker, I need the vapor to feel noticeable and satisfying. The ModulA was designed to deliver a strong ball-vape experience while still working well with small amounts, around 0.1–0.2 g.
Seems expensive for what is basically a stunner or thermal accumulator heater and bowl on a WPA. The price puts it in Tempest 2 territory, but idk if it works as a stand alone vape without a bubbler, though they do sell as stem for another $80. Plus, the T2 can fit 10, 14, or 18mm connections natively.
The bowl handle is neat, but seems redundant given that it’s probably cool enough to handle on the wood WPA section.
What I really want is a handle on the heater… like a mini universal baller that you could put right in the YLL 3 or Wand.
I purchased 25mm 304 stainless steel rod at Amazon. I used a metal cutting saw to cut it to size. Next I used a belt sander to smooth the edges. Then used a quality bench top drill press and drilled it out with a 1/2" cobalt bit. Last, used a dremel tool to finish it up. Just wanted to see if it would work, and it does.
Tip: When ordering stock be careful when it comes to mm and fractions. Quite often they will claim it is 1" but it is actually 25mm and vice versa.
