Hello thanks for the invite on the live stream. If this is the wrong place forgive me. Showing off my Baller setup. Ruby Core wired on the rack. Quartz vortex, and standard housing. Dedicated 30mm hammer off screen. Thank you
I don’t know if I can explain it accurately but to me, it drain heat faster so either sip from it or wired if you want to drink from it. It’s a slower build heat than metal and seems slower than quartz. It will roast it, but you really taste the flavors more but if you want a quick punch and put on your but the other is better. I like it, if if want to taste the weed.
On my ruby core… Not that the question was for me… Jus thought I’d throw in my 2cents worth… I went with 3mm rubies, I think it was a “Troy” suggestion on one of the vapes… I luv both the glass and the Ruby setups. I feel spoiled in my evening UB sessions and the flavors are wonderful on both. Being able to see the heat zone is where I find the biggest difference. I believe there is a noticable difference between the draw on my glass (2mm rubies, I believe… TCC would be able to confirm that I think) vs the 3mm in the full ruby setup.(For Me)… The biggest and favorite of all is my 30mm jacket and the 3mm rubys!. I bought the adaptor set for everything else.. I put that fir coat on those 3mm rubys… I’m pretty sure the birds singing got louder, and the sun came out!
Spent the weekend swapping between UB configurations only to come back to the default wireless/all glass. Adapter set is getting here today but the 30mm coil seems to be sold out everywhere so I’ll have to wait to try the FMJ. Coming from the WOHW, the flavor is definitely more present, but even with the glass air path removed on the UB the WOHW hits feel a bit punchier running both at 575F. Hopefully the FMJ gets the best of both worlds.
WOHW is punchier for me too, even when they’re both wired, but UB tastes better with minimal performance sacrifice.
I could live off the WOHW if I had to.
FMJ gives a different hit - more of that insulated radiant/conductive goodness. At first I thought it was too big and ridiculous, but now its the only way i use it
Definitely agree, I could easily live with only the UB (plus a banger). I wonder if increasing the airflow with larger rubies would give it a bit more punch. At the end of the day the UB is too versatile for it to NOT be the choice for my one-and-done. Can’t wait to try the FMJ without the quartz liner just to know lol.
They each have a slightly different signature so you will get extra high if used to one, just by switching to the other.
The ruby tastes a little better (probably just from the fuller heat), and it retains heat significantly better than the quartz.
Both the quartz and ruby are flavor neutral and yet they each taste a little different. It is subtle. Probably because the ruby and quartz each retain and transfer heat a little differently and bring out different aspects of different terps.
I don’t know if it is truly worth the price for most folks to get the ruby insert but it is definitely a slight improvement on a near perfect device.
One drawback, while I would love to run it with 2mm balls, the insert is a tube with two high airflow ruby discs to cover the ends, not a cup and a disc like the quartz, so those 2mm rubies can spill pretty easily almost any time you open the baller to switch things. There is no cup side keeping things contained. 3mm rubies are much more user friendly in this configuration and large enough to not slip out when changing from wired to the FMJ and the titanium insert comes off with the head. I change things too often right now to use 2mm beads as they spill or even leak out the bottom so easily with this insert. Not while in use, thankfully, but almost every time during disassembly.
Does anyone know of any all glass one piece bowls with 14mm joints? The TCC site has only 18mm joints, and my 18mm bong is much bigger than my 71 year old lungs can handle. I know I can change the joint on the hybrid bowl, but when you’re using it it’s a pain to have to wait for it to cool down to switch, and the metal part of the hybrid bowl is expensive to have several laying around.
I wanted to kick off the convo about temps! What’s everyone running their UB at?
I’ve been running the wireless setup w/ the Quartz insert @ 520f (microdose bowl). It’s pretty consistent for a solid one-and-done kind of hit, without going too dark, which I really enjoy!
I’d love to hear what other folks are running temp-wise! What’s your personal sweet spot?
@Hartford - I’m still playing with it to find what I like. I was running close to 520º in wired mode, but I’ve switched to microdose bowl and I just turned it from 490 to 470º. I don’t think it will work, but I was going to try dropping to 450 today.
I’m not sure how comparable it would be though since not only am I wired, I’m looking a comfortable session, hopefully about 4-5 hits, but the microdose bowl might be a little small for that many hits.
