When I was traveling in India up near Jaiselmere in the Thar dessert. I’d met up with some Aphgan Travelers who had Red hash. The old man would reach in to the fire with his bare hands and take a hot coal and place it on top of the chilum , leaving about an inch and a half Gap. The hot air would vaporize the hash and you were left with an explosion of robust Vapor and Potency. The taste was jaw dropping. Then they would cook a beautiful meal on the same fire under the stars. That was in 1989. I’ll never forget it and haven’t seen that Red hash since.

My first was an oil burner pipe, early 80s. I think they were first introduced in the early 70s. Then again, what came first, the oil burner pipe used for opium or ones used for hash oil?
I have only tried hash oil in it. Never considered trying regular brick hash in it.
I used to see a lot of oil in the 80s. Double dipped 3 for $5 joints. 
Now those are pretty much only used as a crack pipe

LOL … My first ‘vaporizer’ was way back in the very late 70s. Yep, that is correct. I didn’t even know I was vaping at the time. It was a pair of early 1900s solid silver butter knives I ‘borrowed’ from Granny’s ancient upright chest in her basement. Didn’t know about the heat distribution properties of Silver at the time, I just liked the weight and fancy ass thick handles. I filed the blades a bit thinner at the tips and gave them a rough texture so the hash nerd would stick to them and not roll off. Those knives were amazing and I used them extensively over a 10 year period. Probably 20,000++ hash knife hits over that decade, no shitting. Couldn’t get decent weed back then (a bag of sticks and stones, we used to say. Hash was available and good though). I’d heat the knives usually with a propane torch because it was fast. Heat to red hot then let cool until perfect temp. 1000s of hits and you knew perfect. Too hot and the hash would combust, too cold and little vapour was produced. When the perfect temp was mastered, a massive cloud of super tasty potent ‘steam’ shot out from the twisty knives. Took the cloud directly from the knives with the lips about 2" from the blades. Only had to burn the lips 1-2 times to learn not to do that lol. Gawd I loved those knives. Used to store them under the hood of my old van. My story was they were used to jump a faulty starter on the van (actually did that once lol)… If I ever got pulled over and had to explain the burnt knives. I believe the knives were lost when I sold the van and fucking forgot to remove the knives. Those 2 heavy solid silver knives are probably worth more today at current silver prices than what I sold the van for back then.
My first real vaporizer was the Vapir Air2 I purchased in Amsterdam in 2004. I still have it, sitting on a shelf. Honestly, the knives were better vaporizers and I’d trade the vintage Vapir for Granny’s silver knives any day. Ahhh … the memories!

I used it with the bags for about 6 months, never used the whip system. I had used the DDAVE bowl but it broke.
Upgraded to the volcano classic and never used it since but may get it back out one day.

In '95 I got a soldering iron/fishbowl vape. “Vaporizer” and “Made in Beverly Hills” were on the decals. But I got it on Jay St. in Schenectady, NY, so I questioned that origin.
In 94, RJ Reynolds had a test market cigarette called the Eclipse, which had a coal you lit and that vaped tobacco. That was how I became aware of vaping.

@mtpromises - T&J showed a cannabis vape like that, the Okin maybe? They didn’t use it since it’s not replaceable and apparently hard to get charcoal for.

My first vaporizer was a Pax 2, and it was a complete failure for me. At the time, the salesperson recommended it to me. Of course, he recommended the most expensive device in the store, and since I knew nothing about vaporizers, I trusted him.
I got home, unboxed it, and tried it, and it was a huge disappointment. I gave it a full week while trying to quit smoking, but I just couldn’t make it work for me. I ended up going back to smoking and continued combusting for another 3 or 4 years.
Then I discovered the Mighty+, and that’s the device that finally helped me quit combustion for good. It’s now been about four years since I last smoked, and I’ve been exclusively vaping ever since.
Today, I own a collection of 29 vaporizers

The Mighty+ was also my first vape that got me away from combustion. It helped that it was in the winter, and I’ll only smoke outside. The smell of the vape in the house didn’t bother me, so I vaped all winter. By the time the weather warmed up, I was over combustion.

Yup. It’s a vape by Dan Morrison, who also makes vapes like the Nomad and Toad. Probably the most beautiful handmade vapes you’ll ever see.

Late 70’s, we would build chamber pipes from brass fittings, with a “chamber” in the middle. When I was low I would scrape the resin, and heat it … vapor…

I bought a European Version of the eagle Bill shake and vape. Must have been around 2003. I don’t remember the name of the product, it said something like unbreakable glass from aerospace. Of course it broke at some point. It was basically just a glas bowl and a glas stem connected trough a plastic peace with air intake holes. At the time I did not know anything about vaping, so I ended up combusting the material to get the maximum effect.
A few years later around 2009 I got the vapbong, which was a glass stick vape and the arizer q extreme which I consider my first vape I was actually using more or less frequently.
