So I got my replacement device and got to lol at the instructions saying not to use any counterfeit batteries with this device… The battery is built in 
I never even used this apart from the week I got it but it is a good spare unit for out and about i guess.
I no longer own a Solo II, as it went to a local patient. I have not tried the Solo 3. I truly hope that if this post is in the wrong spot the Admins will fix it.
I’m just here for fun, and wanted to show off the Solo that I bought in 2011. Video quality is poor, which I will fix another time. This vape just still works so damned well! The Solo still has the original battery. This unit has been used to make dozens of videos showing off Ed’s TNT stems etc. The battery only lets me use the unit for 2 - 3 sessions, but they sell replacement batteries on Amazon: Arizer Solo Batteries. I was incorrect in the video when I said the batteries were 29- 39 dollars. They are only $20.
P.S.- I love that the first Solo has no timer. Long sessions (12 minutes). Shut it if you’re done.

There’ll always be a soft spot in my heart for Arizer vapes because the Solo 1 was my first vape back in 2011/12.
I have been using only full convection portables like the Frolic/TB2/Convex2 for the last few months so I pulled out the old S3 for a nice hybrid hit. Wow! I got punched in the face pretty good from a nice long session with the hi-flo WPA and the infinity poker for cooling.
It’s really nice to change things up and remember why I keep certain vapes around for their different signature experience.

Today I almost combusted at 198C, the AVB looked very dark brown and the last draw didn’t tasted good at all. What did I do wrong, is it by overpacking ,or dryer herb, or not drawing hard enough.?? It’s the first time and nothing is wrong with my vaporizer. Or is 198C just to high for my style of vaping?

My first Solo 3 combusted at 200 so I got it sent back got another that also combusted and it turned out that was on the recall list. It got sent back not long ago and swapped for a new and fully tested unit they say and guess what? this also combusts.
Now granted it does not combust every time and it only does it with the small bowl stem never with the XL stem. See I could understand it it went up to 230 or 260 like other vapes and it combusted but it only goes up to 220 so should never ever be combusting.
I use mine upside down always so no material drops into the heater and I keep the heater nice and clean and do not over pack the bowl ever.
It is not just us that this happens with and deffo should not be happening with a device that only goes to 220oC

My Solo wasn’t on the recall list but I have had something similar happen to me with it once and came close to combusting. Now I never go above 190C and it’s been fine. The Solos can definitely run hotter than they’re supposed to.
If it’s not the unit, the other things to check for are clogged screens or flower falling into the heater. I also always use my Solo upside down with a WPA and a j-hook to eliminate the chance of this happening.
If you prefer to use it right-side up, I would either use a little screen on top of the bowl or tamp a little and try and take your first hit horizontally. After the flower is hot and sticky it’ll stay in place, even inverted. I also load the Solo by holding it upside down and inserting the stem or WPA from underneath.
I think you posted that you still use the glass screens. I wouldn’t rule out that a hole or two got clogged during your session and killed your airflow. Did you notice if it was hard to draw? I would recommend using mesh screens on top of the glass screen if you can’t get the hi-flow screens.

Edit: Oh yeah, it could also be due to flower that’s too fine and dry as you mentioned.

It was the herb from the bottom of my grinder, and I always put enough in my stem. Afterwards I also dropped the temp to 190C freshly grinded herb and everything was fine. Maybe the distance between the herb and bottom of the stem must be high enough. The holes in the stem I always keep clean

Yeah, that fine herb dust is probably the likely culprit. Fine flower close to the heater can combust depending on your temps and draw.

I’ve learned that you have to have the herb below the rim of the stem. I also always tap it a couple of times over my grinder so any loose herb falls out there rather than into the heater, which will definitely combust it

I don’t have a problem with herb falling on my heater, I always check first nothing is falling out. But now I think instead of leaving a space of 1 to 2 mm it’s better to leave a bigger gap in the stem so it’s further away from the heater
I understand your frustration now @Rodney It’s strange you have to worry about combusting at 200C, with my other vaporizers I never had that problem. I still love the solo 3 because it can hit you real hard in the head, it’s a very effective vaporizer, and it works great even at lower temps

Just saw what you mean yesterday. It was my first herb in 6 weeks so I loaded it much lighter than usual. My first rip at 195c combusted. I pulled out the stem and saw that the weed had slid down. The pack didn’t fall apart but stuck out below the level of the stem. Hence the combustion. I think I didn’t pack it tightly enough. I pushed it back up and packed it in tighter so it would stay in place. No more combustion on that bowl, even at 205
I have to run my Solo 3 significantly cooler than most of my vapes. It seems to run on the hot side.

Indeed, I noticed it too. Instead of 198C (which I liked) I run it now between 180C and 190C depending on I want to take it slow or not. I really don’t want to take the risk of combusting
This is odd to me. I own the Solo2, Air and Air2 and have never once combusted even at max temp. I’m assuming the Solo3 has a more powerful heater, or higher max temp?
I didn’t tried the solo2 but I can say the solo3V2 feels very powerful, you can finish a stem real quick if you want.

I’d say both. Bigger heater that’s also more nimble. It’s not your Daddy’s Solo 2

There have definitely been a few combustion events I’ve read of in the wild. Even the latest v2 version seems capable of it.
It’s possibly still tuned hotter than what the display says but I keep things under 190c and I’m good.
The Solo2 max temp is 428°F and I’ve never had an issue with combustion. Like you said the heater on the Solo3 is probably more powerful and maybe has a higher max temperature… I could see that causing possible combustion.
I don’t use my solo2 much anymore… may have to bust it out tonight.
The S3 has the same max temp of 428°…the difference is “from what I’ve heard” the Solo 2 heats only from the bottom of the heater where as the Solo 3 heats the bottom & the sides..so it makes for a more powerful heater, in turn giving you a bigger hit.
