Firewood 12

Firewood 12 is available now. Just picked one up.

Copied from post 8:

From Firewood webpage.

The Firewood 12 is an advanced hybrid convection/conduction heater that roasts your flowers evenly and thoroughly, eliminating the need to stir. It is powered by an internal, user replaceable 18650 battery (not included, but available to US customers, 1 per order at checkout) with an internal charger that uses any standard USB-C cable. The oven temperature is digitally controlled with 3 user programmable temperature presets.

The Firewood 12 uses the same powerful heating coil as the 11 while the oven is now made of quartz glass instead of ceramic. The result is a much an easier to clean oven with no permanent staining. In addition the hybrid heating uses slightly more convection and less conduction and has a slightly more open airflow.

Wood is protected with 100% natural Beeswax and Mineral Oil.

Includes the following:

1 Firewood 12 in Black Walnut wood
1 Oven/battery lid with quartz window
1 Mouthpiece joint that connects to many 3rd party mouthpieces
1 Glass mouthpiece (green)
1 mouthpiece joint cover
Not Included - USB-C charging cable and 18650 battery. Please note, battery must be a flat top 18650 capable of supplying 20 Amps discharge current (minimum). US customers will have the option to include a battery at shipping.

Dimensions without stem are approx: 1.08" x 1.56" x 4.16". Weight without stem is approx. 2.6oz.

Sold out already. Well that was fast

It didn’t take long, anxious to see the new bowl pictures on site don’t show much. At least the price didn’t go up much.

I’m really looking forward to early reviews on this. I have the FW9 and 10, but skipped the 11 because heater and everything was the same. I’m wondering if the new bowl is enough improvement to spring for it.

This is exciting should have one coming to review

That’s not bad at all for such a highly sought after device!

interesting - this is the first time Firewood has made such a small change year to year

the 12 is the same as the 11, but with a quartz heater - is there anything else different?

@420vapezone - The way I read it, it uses the same heater, but the bowl or the block the bowl sets in is quartz. There was a pretty big jump in performance between the FW9 and FATx. The 11 had no internal upgrades, but a new wood design and the built in WPA.

Firewood12 Bowl hard to get a picture of looks like a quartz sleeve.

The air intakes are definitely bigger on the 12. Stock, I’m getting noticeably better flavor and it’s less harsh than the 11.

One thing I don’t like so far and maybe I’ll get used to it, is the screen setup. The screen on mine falls out pretty easily. There’s also a small triangular piece of metal that sits between the base and the screen as a spacer to keep the screen from sliding down into the bowl. The problem is, if the screen falls out, that little triangle piece falls out too. Other than that, I’m definitely liking the improvements on the 12 so far. Vapor quality better but that screen is going to be a pain in the ass.

Quartz is a big deal. Better flavor. Better heat retention. Easier to clean.

I get mine on Friday. I hope I’m not disappointed on account of the screen issue. I love the way the 11 feels in my hand and love how the screen stays put. I can take a steel brush to it without it moving around. Am I going to have to be gentle cleaning out the bowl?

I’m still not sure how that metal triangle piece falls out of place. Do you think there is another solution to the problem?

Thanks.

It got better if you see in my pictures above that triangle piece goes between the screen and the bottom of the bowl. Once I got the stuff lined up it held good. My eyes just need very bright light to see in the bowl to tell what Im doing. I haven’t pulled it back out again but should be easier to do next time. Used a S&B brush to help me keep the screen straight.

Got mine today. I like it. Better battery life, same great hits.

I don’t like that triangle piece at all so I replaced it with a fury 3 dosing capsule. Works perfectly. makes it a lot easier to put the screen in. It sits a little lower than the triangle so I can put a bit more herb in there.

Not a bad idea. Does fit tight enough you dont need the screen? Have you tried it without the cap and just put the the standard screen on top?

It’s a pretty solid fit and your idea is very intriguing. I’m going to experiment a little more this weekend.

Also, using the triangle piece I put a Dani fusion screen on top of that and that works just as well.

So I tried your suggestion using the dosing capsule (with the Dani fusion screen on top just to catch extra debris). For grins and giggles I also filled the dosing capsule with flower to see what kind of bake I would get. The picture of the AVB: the one on the right was in the capsule. The one on the left was on top tightly packed.

Great results! No herb in my mouth whatsoever. Huge hits. My only question is if the mouthpiece adapter will get dirtier because I am not using the fine mesh screen.

Update: Tried it without the Dani Fusion screen – same results.

The only negative to using the dosing capsule is that when you dump out your herb, the capsule will come out with it. However, the fact that I can fill the capsule with herb as well as above it makes it worth it. I’m not sure if using the capsule causes any extra power drain on the batteries…I don’t see why it should. I’ll report back on that and how well the capsule method keeps both the mouthpiece adapter and glass stem clean compared to using the OEM screen.

Misread your statement here. I have not tried to remove the top cap of the capsule but I’m sure you can do that with a screen over it and it would work fine. However, if you do that, you will have 2 things come out with the herb when you’re finished. The top of the capsule has air holes so there is no restriction with the top on.

IMO, the Fury 3 capsule works better than the triangle insert. If you choose to use a screen over the capsule, it’s easier to place in the bowl as opposed to that triangle insert. If you choose to not use the screen, you’ll just have to contend with the capsule falling it when you dump the herb out.

I’m still playing with it, but I like using the capsule without the screen when I fill it with herb. I like using the standard .5" screen when I’m out and about because the screen keeps the capsule from falling out.

I suspect I’ll never use that triangle piece again.
