Firewood 12

Dang, the 1pm drop sold out in like 2 minutes. I wonder how many he’s releasing in each batch. Can’t be many.

don’t want to do like flaske and need to get 800 out the door all at once

Hello, wanted to share something I’ve been working on for a few weeks now. With the FW12 moving away from the ceramic oven, I wanted to try replacing the ceramic stem adapter, the last piece of ceramic remaining in the FW12. The same piece is also used on the FW11, and it would be nice to make that easier to clean too.

I designed a CAD model and sent it off to be SLM 3D printed in 316L stainless steel.

They arrived today, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.

Fits and works in my FW11 and my FW12 as I expected.

My initial run was 15 units, as a test. All of those units have been spoken for already by other community members (I will be reaching out to y’all individually soon). I will be sending off another order.

They will be sold for around $10 plus a small shipping fee.

I’ll post again when the next batch arrives in a few weeks. In the meantime, if you’d like one, just message me on any platform and I can put your name down on my list.

No payment needed for reserving one, but please only do so if you actually have a FW11 or FW12, or have one incoming :face_blowing_a_kiss:

I moved the Firewood 12 discussion to its own topic and made the top post a wiki. Also, for better visibility, the details from post 8 in this topic were copied into @BigDavetokeit’s top level post for the topic.

Feel free to update with more detailed information and personal pictures.

3d metal printing blows my mind! I wonder if something like this could be done to make a direct WPA adapter for the Bowle and Flaske? Seems to open up a lot of possibilities but I guess I’d need to read more about the available metal composition and properties.

they 3d print entire houses now.. was just doing some classification stuff at work and ran into some new facilities at fort bliss that were 3d printed.. i had seen the 60min clip a few months/year back with the place doing it.. comes out like toothpaste blob and looks like corduroy https://youtu.be/dXUX6dv2_Yo

The 3D concrete printing they are doing for buildings now is fascinating AF

Sleepyghost515 dropped some new FW stems. A couple gone already but there’s a few options still available.

He does awesome work. I have 2 T2 sleeves from him.

Good people. Quality work.

That is pretty awesome. I just watched that YouTube 60 Minutes video. Unfortunately, they did not mention anything about earthquake-proofing, which I doubt would hold up in earthquakes out here in California, but the concept is pretty damn cool. In other places, they don’t have to worry about earthquakes.

seems with some rebar they could make it stronger.. guess if they put the house on springs like they do some skyscrapers out there it may help with an earthquake anyways

Just had to pop in and say how great the flavor is with this thing. The FW12 in general (and with the SS piece :face_with_tongue:).

I envision this being my primary battery device moving forward.

I’ve been running low on herb, and no battery device I have is as efficient with herb as my firewoods. Been using it alone the past few days, aside from a few FW11 bowls.

The stainless piece definitely helps with cooling and IMO smoothness.

Also, should be sending out the first of the adapters tomorrow, have reached out to those in this first batch already  sending one to Marc as well. Thanks to those that helped make this possible :green_heart: especially @jackrod

Very cool to see how this came together. I’m kind of in the dark here though. What is the impact of replacing the stock piece with this? Are there concerns with using ceramic? I’ve got my FW12 on the way and just trying to educate myself a bit.

No safety or health concerns for me with the stock ceramic, totally safe. It’s unglazed ceramic, so it soaks in oils and resin over time, and can be difficult to keep clean. It also tends to add a bit of carryover taste once it is very saturated.

Stainless is to improve the flavor, cleaning, and to add some extra cooling as a side benefit. Stainless isn’t porous, so it can always be swabbed off while warm or given a quick iso soak without waiting forever for it to dry back out.

The FW12 is a still great device with the original piece.

Both of these are a little dirty, forgive me, I pulled them out to swap with the stainless.

The one on the left is from my FW11, the one on the right the FW12. The FW12 one hasn’t been fully saturated yet, and still is mostly the paler ceramic.

The oven on the 11 and many devices before that were fully made of the unglazed ceramic. It’s safe, just not the easiest to keep clean. That’s why the quartz oven on the 12 is a big deal for FWs, and why I was motivated to try and fully replace the last bit of ceramic.

Totally fine stock, just swab it often.

Damn it hurts to read this thread. I think had the timing been different with my vape evolution and purchases, I would own a Firewood. I’ve been tempted for a while, probably since the FatX.

It looks like a great vape but with a Ubik coming, I’m just worried it’ll compete with a vape category I’ll already have. An artisan wood battery vape with impeccable materials. Just wood, glass and stainless.

A lot of people love the Firewood for taste and I do imagine it tastes great. I’m not convinced enough though that the vapes I own can’t replicate the experience or that the Firewood experience will be sufficiently different.

For example the Convex2 has a polished zirconia bowl and zirconia airpath and tastes amazing. I use the Frolic with the DOA giving me a glass stem with a glass bowl and it tastes similarly amazing.

Don’t get me wrong. I think the Firewood is great and again, I’d probably get it as my “artisan battery wood vape” if I didn’t have a Ubik on the way. That’s my logic and I’m sticking to it! Stop tempting me! :squinting_face_with_tongue:

This is not a helpful comment. I take much offense to it. I only just told my wife how much I spent on my backup BAKx. How dare you.
