Firewood 12

Based on its reputation from the experienced vaporists here, I think you’ll end up really liking it.

I’m definitely having to find an excuse not to pick one up eventually. People don’t really like the triangle thing! Maybe that could be different in the next one! Yeah that’ll work for me for another couple weeks at least

Yeah I dont do impulse I was a lurker on fc and borrowed a fair few opinions on there to good effect.Looking forward to it.Used to do high end ecigs and non stabilized wood would have put me off there as i wasnt about polishing etc and wet mild climate here if wood is gonna swell it does it here. Not read one such account of the firewood so decided I was in:heart:

I forgot to order the triangle thing:upside_down_face:

LMAO, I got ADHD and all the poor impulse control that comes with it but I’m not on the spectrum so they tell me

I got mine in yesterday. It’s very different from my others, 7, 9, & 10 but I love it. I’ve seen mention of the Fury 3 and Hyperdyn dosing caps being good replacements for the triangle riser. Anyone know which works best?

How annoying is the screen? That is the main thing that’s been holding me back up till now.

It’s definitely not the end of the world, but it could be easier. But, I sometimes struggle with the screen in my 7. There’s 4 or 5 of us in my little discord that have one and it’s a pretty even split on who is having issues and who isn’t. Once I got it in place, it’s stayed. I don’t even have an issue blowing out a spent bowl. That might’ve been a deal breaker lol.

Is there a preferred battery for the Firewood 12? And am I correct that we should not be using an external charger? Remember reading that somewhere. That would be annoying since I like to have an extra battery or two charged and ready to go.

No real harm in external charger, the main worry is that some external chargers can overcharge the batteries. The manual notes over 4.3v is what the device considers overcharged.

If that happens, you can use the batteries in another device until the charge gets below that threshold.

Using my proper external charger, I have never had an issue charging and swapping in batteries. I did use my flare battery at one point, which was overcharged for the FW.

There are some wall chargers that are basically just a rectifier and some resistors, without actual chips inside to regulate charging.

My charger explicitly targets 4.2v, which is fine for the FWs.

I like the molicel P28A, it’s what I run in my other 18650 devices as well, but any quality flat top cell with 20A discharge current should be fine. The FWs are flexible in my experience, I run mine occasionally with my spare set of wand batteries in a pinch lol

Unless Marc has changed it, the manual for the FATx specifically said to charge in the device. It can be problematic using an external charger on these since they are VERY sensitive to an even slightly overcharged battery, and many of the external chargers try and do a maximum charge.

I’m using an external charger that has a “storage mode” that caps the charge at 3.6V. I’m thinking that should be fine to use.

The first few stainless adapters from the first batch were delivered to buyers yesterday, so far feedback on fitment and performance has been good :green_heart::green_heart:

Thanks y’all, looking forward to this larger second batch, and for the rest of the batch 1 adapters to get delivered to people today and the coming days.

Just paid for an order for 40 more of the FW11/12 stainless 316L stem adapters, along with 5 new prototype titanium adapters, with integrated screen supports. This should eliminate the need for the metal triangle, at the cost of removing the FW11 compatibility.

Should be much more convenient for the 12, assuming they work and print okay. Curious to use it as a test of the printed grade 5 titanium.

Once those 40 stainless adapters get here, I’ll hit up all of those on my reservation list first, then open up to whoever would like one. If you’d like to reserve one, feel free to DM me anywhere, no payment needed. However, I don’t envision this batch selling out immediately like the last one did.

Batch 1 has mostly been delivered now, and feedback has thankfully been good still.

Thanks y’all for the support!

Here’s a good side-by-side:

Yeah. It’s the struggle to keep yourself from pulling the trigger impulsively that makes you come up with those rationalizations lol. ADHD and the syndrome formerly known as Aspergers (don’t get me started on lumping it in with autism - it’s features are very different) have that in common. My eldest (adopted) son has it and I’m convinced that I have some subclinical form of neurodivergence. All that is to say: I recognize that kind of thinking well :joy:

Anyone have any heating tips for the FW12? I’m mainly a stick vape guy so this is new to me. I found stuff online for the 11, but I imagine the technique looks a little different with the switch from ceramic to quartz. Thanks!

I didn’t like it at first, but with the right screen, it works just fine. I love the 12. Better tasting than the 11.

It depends how you want to vape. I bumped the preset 1 to 370 degrees. I kept 2 at 400 degrees and bumped up preset 3 to 430 degrees. Btw in case you didn’t know, it has an unregulated heat setting. Hit the button 5 times (hold on the 5th), your device will buzz 4 times indicating preset 4. Be careful – easy to combust on this setting.

It depends on my mood. If I want a long session, I’ll camp on preset 1 for several hits. Remember, always do about a 15-20 second heat soak on your first hit. Then I’ll bump to preset 3 and finish it off.

If I want to get stoned fast, I go right to preset 3, do a 15 second heat soak and then take 4-5 huge hits (never releasing the power button). That will generally exhaust that bowl.

That’s why i love the FW so much…great flavor at low temps. Huge rips at higher temps.

Highest regard for my new FW12! I have 9 & X and the 12 is a noticeable improvement on everything that matters; flavour, cooling, battery life, and smaller size. Just a stellar artisanal vape! The only area needing improvement is the triangle and screen, easily fixed as mentioned by other users here by using a SS dosing cap instead of the triangle. I use a Roffu cap (same as Fury) with the lid removed and inserted open end down in the FW12 chamber. I usually install the stock screen on top of the capsule but you don’t have to, the dosing cap itself acts as your screen. I find the additional stock screen locks everything in place until resin buildup holds the cap in place.

The FW12 with the screen mod impressed me so much I took it to a concert (FooFighters) a couple of days after receiving it. Normally a tried and trusted vape would be chosen but it was clear the FW12 was a special vape. I reloaded ground herb from a doob tube and debowled with a light tap on a chair as I forgot a pick tool (would be great addition to future models). The dosing cap and screen stayed firmly in place despite rigorous debowling and chamber blow outs over the evening . The extra 18650 battery I brought carried me through multiple bowls over 5 hours of music. Overall, extremely happy with the FW12. Can’t wait to try it with the 3D printed SS stem adapter on the way from DarthDomo. This vape is a big winner!

I know this may not help, but the signature is very different than Dan’s work and from the sound of it, the UBik is in a league of its own. If you do eventually end up getting a FW, you will not regret it.
