Has anyone tried something like this to use when heating with the coil adapter? Once angled to 90° it doesn’t take much distance/clearance from the coil to stay cool. That being said to make it even safer and staying cooler, something like this could be used in combination with the JCVAP thread extending adapter sold on their site to raise it up a bit. It can rotate and be used vertically as well for IH use so I may try it myself. Bakelite may look like normal plastic but it really is quite heat resistant in my experience. There are metal options that could be wrapped in silicone self-sealing tape for added grip and insulation

Unfortunately I have also broken my quartz bowl insert! I was trying to be careful but accidentally knocked it against the edge of the desk and it shattered. I am about to order more seeing they aren’t too expensive but I wonder if there is a way to strengthen the glass a little.
Loving it otherwise, especially in a new piece..

I only twisted it for a few rounds after the hit and only if it hasn’t been locked. I couldn’t see or feel any scratch marks on the bowl but detected those brighter spots on the inside on one half of the cap which is in accordance to the haptic feeling I get when twisting the cap while sitting on the bowl.

This is what was happening for me. Kinda would catch in a certain spot. So sometimes the Ti bowl would get stuck other times not. I didn’t try debureing the crown but instead sanded down the bowl OD. I’ll take another look and maybe try the scotch bits pad as well.

Makes sense! That was just a general comment in case it helps avoid any Crowns fused almost permanently to Ti bowl tops.
I only know it helps lock things together because I had to learn the hard way

The coil adapter to rectify the mistake in labeling the coil has arrived. Looks like it had a rough journey but it did arrive in working order. It is in place and the Crown is heating for it’s first real hit.

I finally received my JCVAP Crown yesterday, and I’ve started testing it!
I ordered mine with the stock ruby balls, but I also ordered the SiC balls, which should arrive early next week.
For now, I’m using it with my YLL 3.0. My current routine is:
• 100W for 60 seconds → first hit
• 100W for 20 seconds → second hit
• 100W for another 20 seconds → third and final hit

I’ve been using the Crown for a couple days now. I have it setup in their proprietary coil on a DIY stand.
Using their bowl has been an adjustment as well, I’ve been using the Hornet as my daily driver for over a month so the much larger bowl has taken some rebuilding of my tolerance.
To get closer to the One Hit Extraction I am looking for I’ve slowly turned the coil up to 640F over time. Usually takes 2 hits to properly finish a bowl.

As someone else mentioned, turning the coil a bit to one side helps keep some heat out of the handle. It does still feel pretty warm at the bottom end, but tolerable.
I can’t wait to get my replacement quartz bowl insert replacement. With the Ti I have had a few issues with binding but generally ok but the flavour with the quartz is that much better. I wonder whether JCVAP will look at creating an all glass airpath. Maybe create some glass 14 and 18mm adaptors that fit into the bowl..

The pictures probably give you an idea.
The titanium bowl is smooth as a baby’s titanium bottom 
. But the crown has rough points that you can catch your nail on. You can see a few in the first.
I zoomed in more in the second picture. The can see the scraping/rubbing mark too in both photos.

The closest to a one hit extraction I have achieved thus far was using this technique.
A firm pack with the tamp end of the OH scoop tool. It BARELY fits in the Titanium bowl. After the pack I poke a few holes through the herb and place the Crown on top the bowl. A steady, firm hit on the bong and a large OH scoop of herb is mostly extracted.
I just realized the OH scoop tamper fits in the bowl. Prior I had been using my pinky or back of brush handle to tamp. A firm pack and the addition of some holes through made a big difference.
Apologies if this makes no sense, just tested the procedure prior to the post.

Nice scoop. It’s actually been hard for me to find a decent scoop and tamp in my country. I asked JCVAP if they could possibly look into producing their own dry herb scoop and tamp for the Crown!

I’m not sure if it’s relevant to anyone or not, but here is what the extraction looks like after hitting a firmly tamped bowl.
I’d call that done in my book. The cleanup hit that’s left tastes bad and irritates my throat so I skip it.
On another note, not everyone is having success with their Old Head scoop fitting in their Ti Crown bowl.

I’ve had way more luck not tamping at all. Medium grind in my BCG, pour it in and shake the bowl so the herb settles a bit. When I was tamping in the beginning I was scorching the top layer and the bottom was undercooked. I also learned I’m much better off preheating the bowl (without the herb in it). The extraction is much more thorough and consistent with the preheated bowl. Just my experience.

Yes, this is already on our development to-do list! We’re planning to make our own dry herb scoop and tamp, especially for the Crown.

Wish I didn’t buy 2x the previous all aluminum stands already otherwise I’d definitely want one. (Just not in gold preferably)
