Tafee Flaske

I do not have a Bowle, so I am new to the Tafee world with my Flaske. I do use it on 5, and have hit it really hard, but haven’t combusted. I have had some really dark ABV, but luckily no combustion. But I have also been staying close to the 75% full, loosely packed pots. I am a regular Dynavap user as well, and I hate cleaning after I ride that line a little too close! :joy:

Well, I know you CAN combust because a few have went there. If I want to risk combustion, I’ll use my Firewood or Dynavap (both give bigger hits than either my Bowle 2 or Flaske). My Flaske is mainly for flavor and sipping…though certainly capable of delivering huge hits.

I really don’t want to combust in my Tafee so I don’t push it.

From my experience with my device, the only time I’ve teased combustion was on level 4 or 5 on the third or fourth 10-15 second draw when I was drawing lighter than normal. I think the slower airflow results in more heat transfer or something but I dont know for sure.

I’ve yet to combust taking a draw to the natural resistance level and beyond but have noticed some hot spotting on those higher levels.

I still think any Flaske that is capable of combusting is likely misconfigured.

So far there are 3 that I’ve seen, definitely not the majority.

The downside of going fully packed is it takes a much bigger hit to one-shot the bowl, and larger/tighter packs leave the screen much messier.
I’m still packing fuller and tighter - and now I have to clean my screens daily.

Are you referring to the top (oven) screen?

Also, the temperature of level 5 is around 480 (past point of combustion). It seems to me that, in theory, every Flaske (or Bowle 2 for that matter) should be susceptible to combustion at level 5.

no the bottom pot screen. it gets clogged after a few uses :frowning:

I bought bulk .5 screens on Amazon for dirt cheap. 200 for something like 6 bucks. Don’t clean, just pop out and replace.

I’ve come nowhere near close to combusting even after several long draws on level 5

I do not combust with the Bowle 2 on 5..I did when it was new but only twice now..I don’t stray from 5 very often, it’s pretty much where I live..

I just throw them into a cup of iso, bowl and all

if the flaske were my main vape, or my only vape in rotation, i’d probably go this route

i’d at least save the dirty screens and clean them all at once though

i’ve been cleaning them with the ISO pickle jar

hey mrpuff666!

Not tryin to be a “topper”, but you can do much better on screens than Amazon!

Go to E-Bay look for vendor: PipeScreenz, for about $17, which includes shipping, you can buy 1k, ya a thousand 1/2" screens!! They have other sizes as well. These are high quality SS screens made in America, no ragged edges.

At these prices/quantity you could literally use a new screen each time and they would last for years! Why have the chore of soaking, washing or burning off screens. Its super convienant & a time saver.

Me too, Never clean again…I calculated 200 screens for 3 month, it’s less than 2€/month for me.

Screens on German Amazon for 5€

Well, you do have to eventually clean the ceramic pots. They will collect a bunch of residue after a while.

Curious about how you guys are using your flaskes? I have not yet combusted, but I think I am finding I prefer settings 4 or 3 better than 5. Also, setting noise aside, are you finding that the experience is the same as it is with the bowle?

Typically I’ll do a starter hit on 3. Awesome flavor but comfortable vapor.

Then finish on 4 or 4/5 with about 2 big hits.

You are correct, the ceramic pots do need cleaning occasionally. But no need to complicate things by adding the chore of soaking, cleaning or burning off screens.

This system works great, I generally use my screens 3-4 times b4 replacing thus extending my supply many years longer! I’ll never pay a smoke shop $6 again for 8 screens!

Ok I’ve spent some quality time troubleshooting the spacing issues and the “air leak” concerns, also taking into consideration Choo’s commentary about sonic resonance.

I can say without a doubt at this point that air does come in through the bottom stem slots. I have been thinking this is a possibility with the size of the tab slot for the stem vs the size of the actual tab on the stem, plus the fact that there is an intentional gap on those grip slots that leads to that opening:

I tried covering the intake at the bottom, usb c slot, and every seam crease with scotch tape to eliminate other entry points and air 100% came in through those slots. I wet my finger and lightly fluttered over the slots and you can actually feel the airflow pass your finger. It’s not sonic resonance for that part, at least for my device.

Also, my only alignment issue is really the stem. As someone else pointed out, the silicone gasket at the top of the device is the reason for my alignment issue:

You can see how the aluminum of the stem doesn’t line up from the top and actually requirs me to put the plug/stir tool in at an angle to avoid scratching it and creating dust right next to where I inhale:

You can see the scrape marks from the plug being inserted due to the misalignment.

The silicone gasket is 1-2mm too big in one of the dimensions. You want things to fit tight for sealed ariflow but I think it was just a bit overdone on the specs here. I have not found a way to fix it, but it does not seem to cause a leak.

The device performs excellent, however I have a major gripe about this misalignment introducing potential aluminum dust right before the mouthpiece.

Fwiw, early on, I firmly pressed the silicone/rubber gasket “upwards” on the stem. It seemed to adjust ever so slightly or it was my imagination?

This is an easy and certainly inexpensive “check” any of us could perform? I didn’t use a tool just my fingers, so I’m not suggesting anyone use a pair of pliers or something lol!

This may not do anything at all, but it’s quick & cheap!

I’ve tried that and other things. No dice. It may look better for a day if you force it but it always ends up looking the same. It’s just ever so slightly too big so hopefully they address that with future builds.
