God this thing is crazy, I can’t believe I was skeptical about torch vapes for so long. Incredible extraction and beautiful AVB every single time and all I have to do is put a stick in a hole for 43 seconds? Back in the day I used to call that date night!
I love the conduction point it adds. It is just a bit, but the minimum needed to get a great extraction with great flavor + effects when you use the smaller screen setting (i mean, more than before…and without cigar puffs…the vapor is more instant)
@VirtualDeviant… and click discs, too. Unfortunately he isn’t shipping to Germany unless the order is above 135 quid. Neither VDN nor LCV offer the new versions or the new heater core.
Decided to weigh my typical Tempest 2 herb dosis and it came out as 0,04g. I use it at full bowl setting but only fill it to around one third to half full with very loose herb.
Is my scale off or is this realistic? If it’s real, I gotta say that the Tempest is incredibly efficient for me, I get pretty damn high of that amount.
I’m excited to test this for you when my tempest arrives in a couple of weeks.
I think i have found my ideal Heat Core setup for DTL
Medium bowl setting, 3mm rubies in the inside of the core, YLL 85w x43 seconds (same setting as I use with rubies) .
I get about 3 big pulls off the one bowl, and a couple of puffs to finish the bowl, and thpe AVB comes out a nice light brown colour. The top of the bowl is only slightly darker and it’s pretty even roast through the rest of the bowl. You could probably push the temperature a little bit if you want a darker roast ![]()
I have tried the normal core & SIC balls so far. I had to use 80w and the top of the AVB did get darker than the ruby core. The next experiment is a stainless steel core ![]()
TLDR - rubies + heat core = ![]()
When this vape first came out, I made the purchase and fell in love. I use the shit out of this thing for months. The only problem is when it gets jarred around too much. Sometimes the screen would pop out. After opening your Tempest with no issues over hundreds of bowls, you get confident and you’re not even thinking. Then that one time you go to the bowl and boom balls everywhere, screen gone, no chance of getting many of the balls back. Take my word for it, there’s nothing worse than having a bunch of unwanted hot balls all over you.
When this happen, I would just load up more balls and add another screen. I will tell myself I’m going really check it and make sure it doesn’t come off and then after a month or so and a bunch of loads, the confidence went up again and they would get me every time. So much that I just had to shelf it. Once I saw they had this other option I was excited, but I waited a while to try it out. So far so good but I am concerned about it potentially popping out with the core just like the balls. Anyone have any issues with the core popping out? I currently have a titanium screen jammed in there instead of the old screen.
Really enjoying it!![]()

This is my husband’s issue too!
It seems like people constantly have issues with the retaining screen or never do.
thankfully I never have but …

I guess I must be lucky too. I got the T1 and T2 as soon as they were available and I’ve not had any balls screen failures. Even when I managed to fit my T2 screen upside down it took a few days for me to notice ![]()
I did have issues with both screens until I changed the balls a few times. I also had too many balls in the T2 making it difficult to close. I am now using x42 3mn and cleaning the balls is a 5 minute job
I definitely think the T2 screen is a better design. The T1 tends to bend if you over tighten it so it feels less secure, but I have had it 2 years now and in still using the original screen
I’m also in the screenophile camp. I was really worried taking it out the first time because I’ve read about all the issues people were having. Maybe due to that, I did everything as careful and methodical as a person that recently used a Tempest can be. Worked out great the first time and has been without issue ever since. But I’m also very careful with and around my devices, I don’t drop or bump them a lot.
I’ve been lucky enough to not have any screen failures so far, but to be fair, I’ve never taken the screen off to clean the balls. T2 still working amazingly well (used daily).
For those who fear hot balls falling in their lap, unscrew the head while holding T2 upside down. Then dump any specs that fall into the head in an avb container/ash tray. If the screen dislodges, then you only have to fish balls out of an avb container.
My husband has managed to do it three times LOL. I love the dang thing, but hot spicy, TINY balls are a nightmare.
(Worth it though)
I noticed that my Tempest ball retaining screen’s fitment loosens after repeated removals and re-insertions. I bend the three f-tabs outward slightly compensate. Small change that gives the screen a much more solid feel.
Yeah, it happened to me once. Could have been a lot worse but just ended up with some melted outdoor carpet on one edge of the bouncing core. I torched the melt off the core and am a lot more religious about checking the ball screen since.
Got my replacement YLL coming today thanks to @Brenyo
lookin forward to getting back to using this, I’ve been missing it something fierce and it’s only been a few days
For anyone interested in the heat core there is now a stainless steel version available in MH website
The Ti version has been really good for native DTL use. I think 'm going to use the SS version for mouth to lung sessions in my upgraded T1
It will be interesting to see how it compares to 3mm stainless steel balls which are great for joint style toaks
For those of us in the United States mad heaters just launched the United States website so we don’t have to pay tariffs anymore. Thank you so much for that so I just ordered the stainless steel heater core. Looking forward to it to Rival.
