With the rest of the blatant copying with these devices and the theft of Madheaters’ website, it wouldn’t surprise me if the tuning was identical, whichever method they may use to achieve that.
if there is a market somebody is going to go after it, always the case… it sucks but it’s the way of it… dispensaries aren’t going to carry the frolic, he probably couldn’t meet the demand even if they did want them… so cheap copies come out and the winner hopes to one day be ubiquitous and on the displays of dispensaries for sales and online and stuff.. being on here is niche and bleeding edge.. these cheapo china copies are trying to capture market share and do it cheap so they can make their margins.. they don’t care about the customer and or experience.. they care about turning profit and maximizing margin and stealing market share plain and simple…
the DHV scene has not yet produced a Puffco/Dr.Dabber like major players.. sure you have Pax/DaVinci etc. with more marketing but it’s still a market with a lot of players but not a lot of them holding a lot of share.. one day somebody will hold the % like puffco/dr dabber in the portable battery dhv space and in order to do it they’ll have to produce something under 400-600.. so this is what you get.. stolen designs done cheap… a few more years from now somebody is going to have a stranglehold on a large chunk of the business.. shocked pax/davinci etc haven’t figured that out and pivoted away from their devices to get them working better but i guess the battery tech is the scare factor and using internal non rechargeable limits the ability on many devices… either way i expect a lot more copy catting the next few years and somebody will be king of the mountain
The Puffco Peak debuted at $400
Now they’re $200, but that took a decade.
If given anywhere near a fighting chance I imagine most enthusiast driven dry herb vapes brands would work their prices down.
quality and small scale is expensive, i don’t mind that at all.. just wanted to note that won’t end up dominating a % share and will always be copied and stolen by the folks with lots of capital to steal and scale
shocked he got a year before this happened really
also i wish dejan would show up here at some point, was nice on FC that he was there to formulate the device and garner such anticipation/demand and worked through things with everybody
Samuel Slater the “father of the American Industrial Revolution” stole his plans from the UK. I’m a bit of a history guy, it’s always grating when people say “people today”, they are almost always wrong.
Just throwing in a couple things since I know a lot about TM and these devices. First, the CEO at Transient Mist claims to have worked directly with Dejan throughout the Frolic development and that he is well aware that these devices were in development and likely to release. So there is a direct connection between these devices and the Frolic in terms of technology employed, but they are separate entities in business. I have not personally verified any of this with Dejan, as I do not know him, so take it with a grain of salt, but I have seen private DMs between the two that certainly indicate a working development relationship. If you have questions, hmu, I’ll answer what I can and ask the CEO the rest.
Now that you’ve told me that, I’m looking at their products differently. And honestly, I can already feel the VAS kicking in hard ![]()
If it’s really the same technology as the Frolic and everything is legit, then it becomes really interesting. Especially if this technology was developed by two separate parties working together under some kind of agreement.
So yeah… the VAS is hitting pretty damn hard right now
Especially considering that the Frolic is my favorite vaporizer out of the 36 I own.
Hmm, this is interesting information.
Something still feels off Re the stolen website though and “aware” is not the same as being happy about something.
I’d like to hear from Dejan, and if it’s all above board that would certainly change my opinion on it. I suppose it’s unlikely that will happen though. We’ll see and for now I’ll reserve any further judgement or comments.
When we (Soothing Vapours) were first approached by TM, the first thing I wanted answers to was why there was such a striking Frolic similarity. Makes a lot more sense considering a development relationship. In fact, it goes a bit deeper than that. I believe the CEO of TM was also on the Tiny Might development team back in the day. This barrel heating tech has sort of a small development circle around it who all seem to use it. This is me guessing at things from bits of info I’ve gathered together, so again, grain of salt.
Do you know if the price for these vaporizers in Canadian dollars will correspond to the price listed in USD on the manufacturer’s website, simply converted to CAD at the current exchange rate?
Website thus far has been very rushed as they are trying to get through it while also in holiday periods in China. When it was being built, we provided a number of examples of highly functional and exceptional websites to use as a rough guide, so that probably explains the current MH site vibe. It’s likely to evolve in the future as the company finds its own direction and style.
Cant speak to pricing just yet.
It’s more than a vibe. It appears they downloaded the site and used it for their own purposes.
Manual link on their website. It has videos that are from Madheaters website on there.
Perhaps explain to them that this sort of thing doesn’t engender trust for a new company in the space.
I wasn’t even aware they had it live until today, so I havent been over to look. I’ll definitely mention it.
Direct copies give off an unsympathetic vibe, thats true. But as some others have mentioned already, copies give people with lower financials the possibility of using higher powered devices. Sure, there are cheap devices on the market, but we all know that DHV is a niche, where “cheap” often means either “underperforming” or “inconvenient”. Banning everyone from making copies will essentially prevent poorer people from using good quality devices. Less providers/companies/makers on the market means higher prices. That is just how the market works. No one makes their products cheaper, if they have less competition.
Sure, there will always be bad players, but thats a given of life, everywhere. Do we, as a weed and vape community, really want people to have less access to good quality, just so a few bad players cant make a profit? I’m not sure man.
EDIT I have read the comments saying that they may have had a work relationship. My comment is more meant in general.
This may or may not be the case here, but your argument boils down to the fact that knockoffs are cheaper so that makes it OK.
I’m sure you would have a different view on this if you had sunk time, energy and financial resources into starting a business, designing and prototyping a device, getting it manufactured and to market to then find a cheaper knockoff designed off the back of that for sale.
We all like saving cash, but counterfeit products harm businesses. Most vape manufacturers aren’t huge concerns that can absorb loss of sales from counterfeiting.
Who said anything about counterfeits? I said in my first sentence that “direct copies are bad vibes”. I am talking about products that take the R&D of others and make similar products, but with some tweaks, so they are no counterfeits. Because the “new” product saved the costs of the R&D, it can be cheaper. Now poorer people can buy a device, that has similar power to a Frolic and don’t have to settle for inferior products.
If no one was allowed to copy a parking sensor, then the only cars offering that would be Mercedes, VW and BMW. And they would charge for it accordingly. Then the elite could have the better product, while the mob has to settle for cars without a parking help. Thankfully this is not the case in rl, so now poorer people can enjoy their Kia with a parking sensor. Most people don’t need it, but some might, elderly people or whatever.
I see your point. But I think I have a point too.
Copies, counterfeit, whatever. This is just semantics.
Generally, tech that is invented by others is licensed by other companies that want to use it, not just taken.
Your mobile phone manufacturer has to pay locensing fees for every device they sell, for instance. This is factored into pricing and the owner of the technology gets paid.
Anyway, this is getting outside of the scope of this topic and my position is already stated, so I’ll leave it there.
Most of what Edison did he stole from others like Tesla. It’s capitalism.
